Date/Time: Friday, July 15, 2011 – 11:00 a.m. Place: Queen Liliuokalani Conference Room King Kalakaua Building, 1st Floor 335 Merchant Street Honolulu, Hawaii 96813 Present: Herbert Minn, Chairperson Bruce Kawano, Member Henry Sasaki, Member Alan Taniguchi, Executive Officer Rodney J. Tam, Deputy Attorney General Alice Worthy, Secretary Excused: Roland Casamina, Member Guests: Tiffany Junot, Boxer Aaron Navarro, Trainer Gerry Penalosa Michael Farenas, Boxer Jesus Arevalo, Trainer Denver Cuello, Boxer Aljoe Jaro, Trainer Fernando Beltran Jr., Boxer Cesar Beltran, Trainer Leon Panoncillo, WBO Supervisor Alberto “Bobby” Villaver, Trainer Joe Cortez, Referee Rick Smoot, ATMP Call to Order: With the presence of a quorum, the meeting was called to order by Chairperson Herbert Minn at 11:21 a.m. Additions/ Revisions to Agenda: None. Approval of Meeting Minutes: None. Executive Officer’s Report: None. Hawaii State Boxing Commission Minutes of the July 15, 2011 Meeting Page 2 Approval of Boxers - New License Applications: It was moved by Bruce Kawano, seconded by Henry Sasaki, and carried by a majority vote to approve the license applications for a boxer’s license for: Denver Cuello Fernando Beltran, Jr. After discussion it was moved by Bruce Kawano, seconded by Henry Sasaki, and carried by a majority vote to approve the license application for a boxer’s license for Michael Farenas, subject to him getting medical clearance from a doctor and notifying the California Athletic Commission of the medical clearance in order to have his suspension lifted. Tiffany Junot appeared before the Commission with her physical and blood work results. She was previously approved by the Commission at its meeting on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Seconds It was moved and seconded (as indicated below) and carried by a majority vote to approve the license applications for a second’s license for: Shawn Kaleo Padilla (Bruce Kawano/Henry Sasaki) Aljoe O. Jaro (Henry Sasaki/Bruce Kawano) Cesar Fernando Beltran, Sr. (Bruce Kawano/Henry Sasaki) Jesus Arevalo (Bruce Kawano/Henry Sasaki) Aaron Tomas Navarro appeared before the Commission with his proof of license from another state. He was previously approved by the Commission at its meeting on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Referee It was moved by Henry Sasaki, seconded by Bruce Kawano, and carried by a majority vote to approve the license application for a referee’s license for Joe Cortez. Judges The two individuals applying for judges’ licenses were not able to appear before the Commission due to their late arrival from the mainland. As a result, it was moved by Bruce Kawano, seconded by Henry Sasaki, and carried by a majority vote to delegate to the Executive Officer the authority to approve the license applications for judges’ licenses for Robert Hoyle and Dr. Ruben M. Garcia, subject to fulfilling the licensing requirements. .
