Thursday, March 18, 2021 Monitoring COVID - 19 Variants • The Massachusetts Department of Public Health continues to conduct surveillance for COVID-19 variants of concern including B.1.1.7 (first identified in the UK), B.1.351 (first identified in South Africa) and P.1 (first identified in Brazil). • Surveillance, consisting of genetic sequencing on portions of COVID-19 positive specimens, has been ongoing in a collaboration between the Massachusetts State Public health Laboratory with clinical diagnostic laboratories and academic partners, including the CDC. • Surveillance data so far has identified B.1.1.7 and the B.1.351 cases without any recent travel. The first P.1 variant case has now also been identified in Massachusetts. It is critical to do everything possible to keep variants of concern from becoming widespread. • For the latest on variant cases in Massachusetts and the US, visit the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Dashboard | CDC. The public health risk reduction measures remain the same. Individuals must continue to wear masks or face coverings while out in public, maintain 6-foot social distancing, stay home when you are sick, and get tested if you have symptoms or are identified as a close contact 3 / Massachusetts Department of Public Health COVID-19 Dashboard – Thursday, March 18, 2021 Count and Rate of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases and Tests Performed in MA by City/Town, January 1, 2020 – March 16, 2021 Average Daily Relative Total Change in Total Case Count Percent Incidence Rate Change in Total Total Tests Positive Percent City/Town Case (Last 14 Positivity per 100,000 Case Tests (Last 14 days) Tests (Last Positivity3 Count Days) (Last 14 days) (Last 14 days)1 Counts2 14 days) Abington 1477 36 14.1 Lower 25859 1470 40 2.72% Lower Acton 802 28 8.4 Lower 37634 2117 31 1.46% Lower Acushnet 1186 35 23.9 Higher 18852 928 37 3.99% Higher Adams 245 <5 1.7 Lower 11689 704 2 0.28% Lower Agawam 2283 71 17.8 Lower 54376 2803 79 2.82% Lower Alford <5 0 0 No Change 208 7 0 0% No Change Amesbury 971 18 7.7 No Change 26868 1336 19 1.42% No Change Amherst 2406 249 44.2 Lower 316958 39507 262 0.66% Lower Andover 2355 85 16.8 Higher 83699 4662 95 2.04% Higher Aquinnah <5 0 0 No Change 517 10 0 0% No Change Arlington 1668 70 10.9 Lower 100279 6567 80 1.22% No Change Ashburnham 355 9 10.2 Higher 11425 937 11 1.17% Higher Ashby 148 0 0 No Change 3620 218 0 0% No Change Ashfield 27 0 0 No Change 2129 158 0 0% No Change Ashland 1337 57 20.7 Higher 36868 2379 61 2.56% Higher Athol 617 24 14.3 Lower 19612 960 28 2.92% No Change Attleboro 3663 123 18.9 Higher 67965 3798 133 3.50% Higher Data are current as of 11:59pm on 03/16/2021; For populations <50,000, <5 cases are reported as such or suppressed for confidentiality purposes. 1 For the calculations used to delineate Grey, Green, Yellow, and Red, please see table on page 25. 2Number of new cases occurring over the current two-week period (2/28/2021 - 3/13/2021) compared to the previous two-week period (2/21/2021 - 3/6/2021). DPH calculates rates per 100,000 population using denominators estimated by the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute using a modified Hamilton-Perry model (Strate S, et al. Small Area Population Estimates for 2011 through 2020, report, Oct 2016.) As of 11/5/2020, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is using the 2019 population estimates, the most current available data. Please note: Data for these tables are based on information available in the DPH surveillance database at a single point in time. Case counts for specific cities and towns change throughout the day as data cleaning occurs (removal of duplicate reports within the system) and new demographic information (assigning cases to their city or town of residence) is obtained. 4 Massachusetts Department of Public Health COVID-19 Dashboard – Thursday, March 18, 2021 Count and Rate of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases and Tests Performed in MA by City/Town, January 1, 2020 – March 16, 2021 Average Daily Relative Total Change in Total Case Count Percent Incidence Rate Change in Total Total Tests Positive Percent City/Town Case (Last 14 Positivity per 100,000 Case Tests (Last 14 days) Tests (Last Positivity3 Count Days) (Last 14 days) (Last 14 days)1 Counts2 14 days) Auburn 1457 64 27.7 Lower 32228 2181 71 3.26% Lower Avon 442 24 39.2 Higher 7397 454 26 5.73% Higher Ayer 764 13 11.5 Lower 17400 836 17 2.03% Lower Barnstable 3283 283 45.1 Higher 64532 3954 296 7.49% Higher Barre 276 20 25.7 No Change 7396 522 24 4.60% Higher Becket 54 <5 4.0 Higher 2477 156 1 0.64% Higher Bedford 743 19 9.1 Lower 36179 2040
