Minutes of the 3:00 pm May 18, 2016, Town of Qualicum Beach Airport Users Committee Meeting held in the Committee Room, Town Hall, 660 Primrose Street, Qualicum Beach, BC Present: Members: Paul Connor, T-Hangars Sunwest Helicopters Gord Gauvin, Skydive Vancouver Island Dr Neill Neill, Member at Large Lorne Acheson, Orca Airways Joe MacDougall, Chartwell Residents’ Association Steve Foley, KD Air Fred Evoy, Parksville-Qualicum Aero Club Staff: Bob Weir, Director of Engineering, Utilities and Airport Jesse Humphreys, Engineering Technologist & Chief Operator Ben Miller, Airport Operator Geoff Graham, Deputy Airport Manager AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA Bob Weir MOVED and Geoff Graham SECONDED, THAT Mowing and the Business Plan be added to items on the agenda. CARRIED ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA The Airport Users Committee adopted, by unanimous consent, the May 18, 2016 meeting agenda. BUSINESS 1) RUN-UPS & OPERATING HOURS G. Graham discussed the testing procedure and the levels of noise recorded. Levels were very low and considered an annoyance rather than harmful or disruptive. G. Graham thanked KD Air for their help in the process. New procedure for run-ups is for pilots to do Run-up at “the button of 29” Chartwell Residents Society is pleased with process KD Air to put out memo to pilots to follow new procedure 2) SNOW REMOVAL KD Air concerned with timeline of airport snow removal and its priority B. Weir spoke to having the priority reviewed with the Airport Business Plan Discussion around using KD Air’s Unimog. B. Weir spoke to the liability issues of this option 3) SOLAR FARM Discussion regarding idea of solar farm on the north side of the T-Hangars P. Connor proposed idea of panels on the roofs of the hangars, spoke to the benefits to the Town, has previously shown proposal to Town CAO, will give copy to B. Weir. 4) RECYCLING AT AIRPORT G. Gauvin questioned availability of having recycling picked up B. Weir to talk to contractor (Progressive) about garbage/ recycling pick up 5) CITY OF PARKSVILLE REPRESENTATIVE ON THE COMMITTEE Have been invited and welcomed 6) TRANSIENT AIRCRAFT PARKING Complaints about the wet tall grassy areas B. Weir would like to potentially have an area paved, is looking for committee suggestions regarding size and shape of paved area 7) VEHICLE PARKING B. Weir would like to discuss this as part of the business plan 8) LONG TERM LEASES KD Air recommended longer leases for businesses 9) OBSTACLE SURVEY B. Weir spoke to the SNC Lavlin’s findings 10) MOWING Schedule of mowing was questioned by G. Gauvin B.
