The purpose of this tour is to build your understanding of the history, geography, and culture of Halifax, and help you get settled quickly and effectively. During the tour, you can expect to: • Get exercise and fresh air • Learn about Halifax’s history and culture • Visit interesting places • Meet new friends • Discuss local events and festivals • Learn important settlement information and tips • Ask any question you want • Have fun! About Us Right Start Newcomer Services helps new Canadians by providing English language training, settlement information, events, settlement coaching, business services, and tours. We are proudly based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Disclaimer Right Start Newcomer Services and its employees are not responsible for injury, illness, or death sustained during the tour. By participating in the tour, you take full responsibility for the safety of all the people in your group and agree to follow all applicable laws and safety procedures. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. During the tour, we may take photos and/or videos to be used for promotional purposes. If you do not consent to being photographed or recorded, please let us know before the tour begins. COVID-19 Procedures Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have implemented several procedures in order to abide by the provincial health guidelines. All participants must have completed their 14-day self-isolation period after arriving in Nova Scotia before participating on the tour. Please do not take the tour if you are sick, have been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or have been instructed by a medical professional to self-isolate. 2. We require the names and a telephone number for the people in your party for contact tracing purposes. Please send this in advance to [email protected] or give it to the tour guide when the tour begins. 3. While on the tour, participants will do their best to maintain proper social distancing (stay at least 6 feet apart) from participants who are not in their close social group. 4. Masks covering the nose and mouth are to be worn whenever social distancing is not possible and when indoors. Children under the age of 2 are not required to wear a mask and children aged 2 to 4 are not required to wear a mask if their caregiver can’t get them to wear one. Masks are not required if you have a medical reason for not wearing one. We can provide a mask if you do not bring one. 5. Proper hand cleaning is highly recommended. We can provide hand sanitizer if you don’t have any. General Information Starting and ending locations: The tour will start at the Emera Oval (5775 Cogswell St., Halifax) in the Halifax Common. The tour will end at the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market (1209 Marginal Road, Halifax). Time: The tour will start at 10:00am and end around 12:15pm. Cost: The tour is free, however, we do accept tips. Contact person: Ian Shepherd at 782-234-3888 or [email protected] Protocol and rules: • Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. The tour starts at 10:00am. If you are late, you may be able to join the tour at another location. Call 782-234-3888 to make arrangements. • For tours in the Winter, please dress warmly. This includes wearing a warm jacket, gloves or mitts, a hat, and winter boots with good treads. Children and seniors are especially vulnerable to cold weather. • Bring money for refreshments and/or bus fare (if needed). • Be prepared to walk for about 2-2.5 hours. A moderate level of fitness is required. • Let us know if anyone in your group requires special consideration and we will do our best to accommodate you. • Smoking is not allowed on the tour. • Please do not wear perfume, cologne or other scented products during the tour. • Please pay attention and follow the crossing rules when crossing the street. • Please be aware of other pedestrians and be sure not to cause an obstruction. • Be respectful and kind to all participants, the tour guide, and to everyone you encounter during the tour. If you are disrespectful, violent, or rude, you will be asked to leave the tour immediately, and the police may be contacted.
