Thai Fight Betong in Yala Province (19/5/2019) Betong district in Yala province is preparing to organize \"Thai Fight Betong, a major Muay Thai, or Thai kickboxing, event, with the participation of both local and international competitors. The event is expected to feature a series of bouts, to be held at the Central Stadium in the town of Betong on 29 June 2019 from 18.00 hr onwards. Muay Thai is taught in many countries, which have introduced it as a sport. It is also considered part of the identity of the country in terms of both sport and tourism. The Commanding-General of the Fourth Army Area Command, Lieutenant General Pornsak Poonsawat, recently inspected the venue of the Muay Thai event, which aims to stimulate the local economy and tourism in Betong. Betong is an important economic town in the southern border provinces. It is being developed into a model sustainable development city in the project, called \"Triangle of Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability. Betong boasts beautiful scenery and famous tourist destinations that attract a great number of Thai and foreign tourists. In his inspection tour of Yala province on 17 May 2019, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith followed up on the progress of the construction of Betong Airport. He said that the construction project is now 85-95 percent complete. The Department of Airports has held discussions with Bangkok Airways and Nok Air airlines on aviation routes, linking Betong Airport with other major cities in southern Thailand and neighboring countries. The Betong Airport project was approved by the Cabinet on 6 October 2015 with a budget of 1,900 million baht.
