NDRRMC Update Re Flooding Incidents in Regions 7,8,10,12 March 16, 2011

Situation Overview Flooding and landslide incidents were experienced in the provinces of Bohol (Region VII), Samar (Region VIII) and Misamis Oritental (Regions X) due to continuous rains which caused the overflowing of some rivers in their areas. While tornado was experienced in Banga, South Cotabato (Region XII) As of reporting time, some families were reported affected and evacuated to higher grounds while others opted to stay with their relatives in the nearby areas. Undetermined number of houses and rice fields were reported damaged by the incidents. However, no casualties reported. II. Effects A. Damages o Twelve (12) houses were reported damaged (5 totally damaged and 7 partially damaged). Totally damaged houses were swept away by the flood and tornado. o Mahaplag – Sogod Road in Southern Leyte was closed to traffic and rendered not passable to all types of vehicles due to landslide. Alternate route for Southern Leyte is the Abuyog-Silago Road and Mahaplag-Baybay-Bato-Sogod-Libagon Road. Clearing operations is on-going. o The Municipality of San Jose de Buan in Samar is experiencing power outage since 15 March 2011. III. Actions Taken: RDMMCs concerned are continuously monitoring the situation in their respective areas. Region VII LDRRMC Bohol and their local PNP personnel advised residents to evacuate to higher grounds and are continuously monitoring the situation. Region VIII DPWH personnel conducted clearing operations at the landslide area while local PNP conducted traffic assistance to motorists in Sogod, Southern Leyte. MDRRMC San Jose de Buan in Samar facilitated the evacuation of affected residents and attended to their immediate needs. Region X and XIII CDRRMC El Salvador, Misamis Oriental and MDRRMC Banga, South Cotabato conducted RDANA to the affected areas.
