1 COLLECTIVE SHOW Previously realized in NYC at Participant Inc in September 2010, Collective Show is an artist- organized exhibition of contemporary art groups. This collaboratively-curated “group show of group shows” features local artist-run projects and spaces, independent curatorial initiatives, not- for-profit endeavors and web-based groups estab- lished in the past 5 years. Collective Show is an open-source project organized by Silvershed, an artist-run project space in New York and Los Angeles. Through close interaction with artists and thoughtful preparation of exhibitions and events, Actual Size presents a wide range of artwork and allows for situations that activate the exhibition and engage the public in the cul- ture of the artists’ work. RECENT PROJECTS On January 15th, 2011, Actual Size Los Angeles hosted a premiere of Pals or Pals for Life / Life for Pals, an approximately 34-minute video piece, which was shot principally in January 2011 at the Actual Size gallery. Created in the style of a traditional studio audience television program, Pals revels in the angst and emotion of four friends/lovers who must install their respec- tive artworks in the presence of frenemies large and small. Though each character in the film is named after a specific human being, the story im- plies that these are simple archetypes from a vast universe of narcissistic micro-movements. Pals features performances by Wilson Chang, Richard Lidinsky, PJ Risse, and Natascha Snellman, with cinematography by Tyler Jamison and original theme music composed by Wilson Chang. The screening will be on view January 15th - February 5th, 2011 dur- ing gallery hours and by appointment. Our first subversive project Waves brought work from female and queer artists into the exhibition, distributed on postcards, as an act of expansive inclusion. The core members Daniel Ingroff, Me- linda Guillen and Paul Pescador initiate projects and membership is open and fluid. We use ephemera, multiples and satire as a critical device for our muted interventionist gestures. Adrian Piper ex- hibits when necessary. MEMBERS Members are brought in on an as needed basis.
