Processing of the Juan Silvano Godoi papers was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded by the UCR Library and administered by Bergis Jules, University and Political Papers Archivist, and Eric Milenkiewicz, Manuscripts Curator. Biographical Note Juan Silvano Godoi was born in 1850 into an aristocratic, Paraguayan family. He studied in Argentina until the War of the Triple Alliance broke out in 1865. After the devastation of the war, Godoi returned home to serve as a member congress from 1870-1877. After he helped plan the assassination of the president, Godoi fled to Corrientes, Argentina. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for the next 18 years during which time he wrote and published numerous books and articles. He retuned to Paraguay in 1895 and in 1902 was appointed Director General of the National Library, Museum, and Archive of Paraguay. Godoi held this position until his death in 1926. Collection Scope and Contents The collection contains material from Juan Silvano Godoi, including letters, manuscripts, excerpts from different publications, his diaries, and a number of published works.
