LimnoTech Page iv Draft TMDL July 2007 Salt Fork Vermilion River Watershed INTRODUCTION Section 303(d) of the 1972 Clean Water Act requires States to define impaired waters and identify them on a list, which is referred to as the 303(d) list. The State of Illinois has issued the 2006 303(d) list, which is available on the web at: http://www.epa.state.il.us/water/tmdl/303d-list.html. Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act and EPA's Water Quality Planning and Management Regulations (40 CFR Part 130) require states to develop Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for water bodies that are not meeting designated uses under technology-based controls. The TMDL process establishes the allowable loading
