1 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 2 UNIVERSITY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION Admission through the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which is conducted by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) for 100 level courses is available into all the Faculties and Departments of the University. All candidates shall be required to possess at least five credit passes in relevant subjects at one sitting or six relevant subjects at two sittings. A credit pass in English Language is compulsory for all courses while a credit pass in Mathematics is also compulsory for those seeking admission to Science based Faculties, but a pass in Mathematics shall be acceptable in the Faculty of the Social Sciences for all courses except Economics where a credit in Mathematics is required. Mathematics is not a compulsory requirement for candidates seeking admission into the Faculties of Arts, Law and some Departments in the Faculty of Education as well as for candidates with Arts based teaching options in the Faculty of Education. Studies) General Science O West African Languages O (Ewe, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Akan) General Science O (Additional) Geography O/A Woodwork O Ghanaian Language O (Ewe, Fante, Ga, Twi) Government O/A Greek O Health Science O NOTE: O/L = School Certificate/GCE Ordinary Level A/L = GCE Advanced Level Beyond meeting the admission requirements, candidates seeking admission into the 100 Level of studies in the University of Ibadan are required to write an admission qualifying examination referred to as Post UTME. Candidates who made the specified cut-off marks at this examination are thereafter recommended for admission, taking into consideration the University Quota for admission as dictated by the National Universities Commission 4 FACULTY OF ARTS Programme: Linguistics & African Languages [i.]Linguistics 10434E Direct Entry: At least TWO ‗A‘ level passes to include any language (preferably an African Language) and another Arts or Social Science subjects. UTME Subjects: English Language, one Arts subject and any other two from Arts, Social Sciences or Science. UTME: 5 'O' level subjects at one sitting or 6 'O' level subjects at two sittings to include: English Language, two Arts subject and any other subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts NCE to include any language (preferably an African language) and another Arts or Social Science subjects at Credit or better still Merit level. NOTE: A certified knowledge of another language other than English will be an added advantage. For a degree in Linguistics, it is an advantage if the UTME or Direct Entry subjects include Literature in English. [ii.] Yoruba 10472H Direct Entry: At least 2 ‗A‘ level passes to include Yoruba and another Arts or Social Science subjects. UTME Subjects: English Language, two Arts subjects including Yoruba and any other one from Arts or Social Sciences. UTME: 5 'O' level subjects at one sitting or 6 'O' level subjects at two sittings to include: English Language, two Arts subjects including Yoruba and any other from Arts, Social Sciences or Science. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts NCE to include Yoruba and another Arts or Social Science subjects at Merit or better still Credit level. [iii.] Igbo 10514F Direct Entry: At least 2 ‗A‘ level passes to include Igbo and another Arts or Social Science subjects. UTME Subjects: English Language, two Arts subjects including Igbo and any other one from Arts or Social Sciences. UTME: 5 'O' level subjects at one sitting or 6 'O' level subjects at two sittings to include: English Language, two Arts subjects including Igbo and any other from Arts, Social Sciences or Science. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts NCE to include Igbo and another Arts or Social Science subjects at Merit or better still Credit level. 5 Programme: ANTHROPOLOGY 10403B Direct Entry: 2 ‗A‘ level passes in any two Arts subjects. UTME Subjects: English Language and any 3 subjects from the following: Government, History, Religious Studies, Literature in English, Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba, Geography and Economics UTME: 5 ‗O‘ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‗O‘ level subjects at 2 sittings to include English Language, History, Literature-in-English, Government, Geography, Religious Studies, Economics, Biology, Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts Geography, Economics, Government and Sociology at A/Level. Programme: Arabic Studies 10402F Direct Entry: Two ‗A‘ level passes in Arabic and any other Arts or Social Science subjects UTME Subjects: English Language, Arabic and any other two from Arts, Science or Social Sciences UTME: 5 'O' level subjects at one sitting or 6 'O' level subjects at two sittings to include: English Language, Arabic and any other subjects from Arts, Social Science or Science. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts: i. NCE with at least merit in Arabic and other Arts, Social Science or Science subjects. ii. Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies from U.I. and other Nigerian Universities. Programme: Archaeology 10425D Direct Entry: 2 ‗A‘ level passes in any two Arts subject. UTME Subjects: English Language and any 3 subjects from the following: Government, History, Religious Studies, Literature in English, Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba, Geography and Economics UTME: 5 ‗O‘ level subjects at one sitting or 6 ‗O‘ level subjects at 2 sittings to include English Language, History, Literature-In-English, Government, Geography, Religious Studies, Economics, Biology, Hausa/Igbo/Yoruba. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts Geography, Economics, Government and Sociology at Advanced level. Programme: ArcheologyCombined Degrees in any of the following: History, Classics, Religious Studies 10525G Direct Entry: Same as above UTME Subjects: Same as above UTME: Same as above Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: Same as above 6 Programme: Classics 10460K Direct Entry: i. 2 'A‘ level passes including Literature-in-English or History. ii. NCE in relevant subjects UTME Subjects: English Language, Literature in English or History and any other two subjects. UTME: 5 ‗O‘ level Credits at one sitting or 6 ‗O‘ level Credit at two sittings to include English Language, Literature in English or History, one Arts or Social Science subjects and any other subjects. Programme: Communication & Language Arts 10422E Direct Entry: 2 ‗A‘ level pass to include Literature in English and one other Arts or Social Science subjects. UTME Subjects: English Language and any two Arts subjects to include Literature-In- English and any other subject from Arts, Social Sciences or Science [Please note that Government and Economics are not Arts subjects] UTME: 5 'O' Level Credits at one sitting or 6 'O' Level Credits at 2 sittings to include English Language, two Arts to include Lit-in-English and any other three or four subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science [Please note that Government and Economics are not Arts subjects] Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts: OND Mass Communication with an Upper Credit grade only. Please note thatapplicants must in addition; have passed Literature-in-English at 'O' Level to qualify for Direct Entry admission. Programme: English Language & Literature 10426K Direct Entry: 2 ‗A‘ level subjects to include Literature in English. UTME Subjects: English Language and two Arts subjects including Literature in English and any other one from Arts or Social Sciences. UTME: 5 'O' level subjects at one sitting or 6 'O' level subjects at two sittings to include: English Language, two Arts subjects including Literature-in-English and any other two or three subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts at least Merit pass in two NCE teaching subjects including English Literature (NOT GENERAL ENGLISH) provided that they meet the basic ‗O‘ level requirements. 7 Programme: European Studies [a] French Direct Entry: 2 ‗A‘ level passes in French and any other subject in Arts and Social Science subjects OR the equivalent of ‗A‘ level Certificate UTME Subjects: English Language, two Arts subjects to include Literature in English and any other Arts or Social Science subject. UTME : 5 ‗O‘ level credits at ONE sitting or 6 ‗O‘ level credits at two sittings to include Literature in English and any other subject from Arts and Social Science subjects. Special Consideration (Waiver) Remarks: IBADAN accepts NCE at credit level including French and one other subject from Arts and Social Science subject. IBADAN accepts candidates without O/L in French.
