Press Release from AFRY

Page 1/2 Date 02/04/2020 Press release from AFRY AFRY to design double-track railway development between Ängelholm and Maria station The turnkey contract for the double-track railway development on the Swedish train line Västkustbanan, between Ängelholm and Maria station in Helsingborg has been awarded to Skanska by the Swedish Transport Administration. AFRY will produce the construction documents, on behalf of Skanska and the railway contractor Strukton. The Ängelholm–Maria station in Helsingborg stretch is part of the Västkustbanan West Coast train line running between Gothenburg and Lund/Malmö. In recent years, the train line has undergone a phased expansion to double tracks, and now it is time for the Ängelholm-Maria station stretch. AFRY's assignments include the design of construction documents for the development of the double-track stretch Ängelholm-Maria station, including the technical areas of bank construction, geotechnology, hydrogeology, water, road and groundworks, external conduits, design, lighting, and environmentally contaminated land. Expanding the entire West Coast line to double tracks will enable trains to run more frequently and with shorter travel times. “We are proud to be part of such a large infrastructure project. The new double-track railway will make it easier to commute, and also add to sustainability, as a great deal of goods currently transported by road can be transferred to railway transport instead,” says Lisa Kullendorff, Regional Manager at AFRY. “We are pleased to have been entrusted with the development of another important stretch of the West Coast line, together with the Swedish Transport Administration and our partners. It is an exciting project including a wide range of technical disciplines, and once completed it will contribute to a better infrastructure,” says Kenneth Wahlqvist, Department Manager at Skanska. The redevelopment will also mean increased safety for pedestrians and cyclists, as the level crossings where roads and railways meet will be replaced by grade-separated, safer crossings. The planning period is estimated to cover the next two years.
