One summer day in the town of Springdale, a painfully average boy, Nate, sets out to collect insects for a school science project. Instead of bugs, though, Nate finds a loud-mouthed Yo-kai named Whisper! Whisper gives Nate a Yo-kai Watch, a device that lets humans see the normally invisible Yo-kai. Nate uses the watch to investigate mysteries around town, convincing Yo-kai to give up their hijinks and instead use their powers for good. WHISPER A Yo-kai that was sealed in a rock and appeared in front of Nate. He is a self-proclaimed “Yo-kai butler.” Whisper is determined to help Nate learn more about Yo-kai, whether Nate wants to or not! JIBANYAN One of the first Yo-kai Nate discovers is Jibanyan. When he’s not lying around eating chocolate bars, Jibanyan likes to practise his fighting moves on passing trucks, usually with painful results! Katie, Eddie and Bear are Nate’s best friends—well, best human friends, anyway! You’ll run into them and lots of other interesting characters on your journey. FIND THEM AND BEFRIEND THEM! You can find Yo-kai all over your town, in rubbish bins, trees or even under cars, so be sure to check everywhere. Sometimes you can find helpful items lying around too. There are over 200 types of Yo-kai lurking in the shadows around town. Do you have what it takes to find them all? CHECK YOUR YO-KAI RADAR! Is the needle twitching on your Yo-kai Watch? That means a Yo-kai is near! If you find anything suspicious, press the Y Button to use the Yo-kai Lens to take a closer look. If it’s a Yo-kai and you impress them in battle (or if you bribe them with the right treats) they might give you their Yo-kai Medal! Dad is being pretty forgetful lately, could it be a Yo-kai? Komasan is looking for his brother, can you help? YO-KAI MEDALS When you become friends with a Yo-kai, they give you their medal, which you can use to call on them for help. Yo-kai won’t give their medals to just anyone, of course. You’ve got to prove your worthiness, either by doing them a favour or impressing them in battle. Sometimes you can even earn their respect by giving them their favourite treats! You can only hold 6 medals in your Yo-kai Watch at a time. The rest are stored in your Yo-kai Medallium, a coin book that serves as a Yo-kai encyclopaedia. Some Yo-kai can even be fused with everyday objects. Try different combos to unlock rare Yo-kai! Combine Chansin with the blade to unleash the legendary swordsman Yo-kai Sheen. EVOLUTION The more your Yo-kai battle, the more experience they gain. Once they reach a certain level, some Yo-kai will become a new, improved version of themselves!
