Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat RAJAGIRI SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY, KAKKANAD & GOVERNMENT P.G COLLEGE, DHARAMSALA Sightseeing (Athirappilly, Vazhachal and Kuzhippilly)- 1st February 2020 The day marked the highly anticipated visits to some of the most popular tourist places of Kerala. After a filling breakfast, the team along with the staff from RSET began their trip. The first stop was the magnificent Athirappilly Waterfalls. Located in Thrissur District, Athirappilly hosts the largest waterfalls in Kerala, which is 80 feet tall, nicknamed the Niagara of India. The forest around is home to a plethora of wildlife including Asiatic elephant, tiger, leopard, bison, sambar, and lion-tailed macaque. Apart from the remarkable sights, Athirappilly has also featured in countless films including Maniratnam’s Dil Se, Bahubali and even English films such as Before the Rains and Pirate’s Blood. After enjoying the morning amidst the luscious greenery and enriching waters, they moved to Vazhachal, falls, 5 kms away from Athirappilly. Unlike the tumultuous falls at Athirappilly, the falls here are more or less horizontal. The water cascades down along steeply inclined rocky terrain, into the foot of Sholayar hills. While they came from the land of mountains, the impressive sight still held them in awe. They spent most of the morning until lunch at both the falls, taking pictures, playing in the waters and enjoying the breath-taking scenery. After lunch, they also stopped by the Kuzhippilly Beach at the Vypeen islands. While the mountains were home and a familiar sight for the students and teachers, the beach was a novel experience for them. Unlike the very popular and crowded Cherai beach, which is situated nearby, Kuzhippilly beach is a quaint unexplored beach surrounded by a charming array of pine trees. The eyeful sights of backwaters and the chemmenkettu was a new experience for them. After watching the breath- taking sunset at the beach, they returned back to RSET with head and heart full of the beauty and splendour of the God’s own Country and eagerly awaiting the experiences of the following day. .
