On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Brampton Curling Club held its fourth annual Marilyn Brown Sparkle Spiel with proceeds going to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Peel. The curling bonspiel is held annually in honour of Marilyn Brown, who was an avid curler and a member of the Brampton Curling Club for 28 years. Event organizer, Wendell Brown, named the event after his late wife, Marilyn, who loved wearing bling and therefore participants wore sparkles and sequins to honour her. This year’s all-day event drew 96 curlers from all age groups. The curlers played two games and were provided with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a dance, all of which was donated by friends and family of Marilyn. There was also a draw prize table of 70 donated prizes. The winners of the event were Councillor Doug Whillans, Debbie Whillans, Mike McCue and Michelle McCue but the biggest winner was the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Peel as $14,025 was raised. Over the past four years close to $63,000 has been raised for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, which raises funds to sup- port a range of causes including heart-disease research as well as programs to promote heart-healthy lifestyles. Breakfast was provided by the Brown family, lunch was provide by Cathy and Stu Field, snacks were organized by Donna Wanless and Barb Wicks. Our nice roast beef dinner donated by Bino from Carl's Catering. The Marilyn special award donated by Sharon and George Kolish was awarded Wendell’s Daughter Kelly and Kim to Merilyn Breen. The spiel would not be a success without the help of the great committee who are Lynn and Bob Cranch Bruce and Mary Anne Tune, Venora and Ken Spreen, Stu and Cathy Field, Heather Mastine, George and Sharon Kolish, Kevin and Nancy Brown, Kelly Handt, Ken Brown, Kim Brown.
