But how much do you really know about your state Tassociation? Here are some things that you may not know… HHSAA is comprised of 96 member public and private schools. The HHSAA sanctions 44 state championships in 18 different high school sports. Each year, we serve more than 35,000 student-athletes through athletics. Research shows that being a student-athlete is more than about fun and games. It teaches important life lessons, too! Not only do high school athletes have higher grade point averages and fewer school absences than non-athletes, they also develop the kind of work habits and self-discipline skills that help them become more responsible community members. Approximately 100,000 fans attend HHSAA’s tournaments annually. Attending high school sporting events teaches important life lessons, too! Among them, it teaches that we can live in different communities, come from different backgrounds, faiths and cultures, cheer for different teams, and still have a common bond. But facts and numbers aside, the HHSAA is about those 35,000 student- athletes. Because of the dedication and hard work of our school administrators, athletic directors, and coaches, it is clear, that we are getting the job done. Education-based high school sports are alive and well in Hawaii. If you are one of those coaches, school administrators, educators, sponsors, families, or fans, thank you for all you are doing to support high school sports in Hawaii. As the numbers above suggest, together we are doing an excellent job. Sincerely, Christopher Chun 4 New City Nissan 2019 Hawaii Girls Volleyball State Championships • sportshigh.com • @HHSAAsports Do you have what it takes to win a Kaimana Scholarship?
