The Outlook, OLLI at UCI Page 2 THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER The end of the “school-year” brings many changes throughout life; people move on and others enter our lives. This is where we are at OLLI at the close of the 2011-12 year. Our UCI liaison Harriet Whitmyer has retired and Tanya Zabalegui is our new liaison to the university. Jnana Anderson VP of Member Services has completed her board member term and Jan Elbaum is now holding that position . Jerry Devries and Harry Levy have left the OLLI board and Joann Burch has joined us. Harriet Whitmyer , the Director, Human Resources, UCI Extension, was named the liaison to OLLI about nine years ago. She was, according to those in the know, the perfect choice. So, much of what we have accomplished over the years is due to Harriet's quiet support. Harriet was the essential ingredient in our searches for another home, personnel problems, mediating financial issues, keeping the UCI ac- counts up to date and accurate, and promoting OLLI in the UCI world. Truly, we wouldn’t be where we are today without our friend and mentor, Harriet. Tanya Zabalegui, our new liaison , has successfully planned, designed and conducted symposiums, con- ferences, and special events in various departments throughout the campus, many of them tied to grants for specific programs. She is creative, positive, enthusiastic, and brimming with ideas. We are delighted that she will be working with us. Thank you Dean Matkin – for assigning this dynamic woman to OLLI as our UCI liaison. Harriet Whitmyer has assured us she will be an OLLI member in Spring 2013. Jnana Anderson and Jerry Devries will continue working on our Equinox Extravaganza celebrating OLLI’s 15 th birthday. Harry Levy, Jnana & Jerry will continue as OLLI members. So the “bottom line” is we’ve only added to our friendship circle. Welcome to OLLI, Tanya, and welcome to the board, Jan and Joann.
