Return to racing Following an injury sustained at the Tandragee 100 meeting in Northern Ireland Daley has been very pleased with his recovery back to full race-fitness in recent weeks. He took part in a parade lap at Scarborough's Oliver's Mount during the Barry Sheene Road Race Festival on 15th and 16th June and undertook testing at Teesside Autodrome in early July. The Teesside testing was used primarily as an opportunity to obtain an initial setup on a 2010 Suzuki GSX-R600 machine very generously loaned by Hol-Taj Exports and Team Classic Suzuki. New Suzuki The 2010 GSX-R600 was loaned as an interim measure whilst a new race-tuned and prepared GSX-R600 was being organised to replace the one damaged at Tandragee. The new GSX-R600 has now been received by Daley and he is currently finalising the race preparations, including a dynamometer run and paintwork job. Many thanks indeed go to sponsors Hol-Taj Exports and Team Classic Suzuki for their continued support. 2013 Suzuki GSX-R600 race- prepared and assembled ready for painting and stickering-up www.daleymathisonracing.co.uk │ www.facebook.com/DaleyMathisonRacing │ 0785 333 5991 │ [email protected] 6 North View, Murton, Co. Perhaps not surprisingly there were a few teething problems with mechanical issues on both bikes, but these were sorted out during practice with little lost track time. The weather was very good with just a hint of dampness on the first day, but not enough to cause concerns. Running 2 bikes through practice and racing on both days lead to a hectic schedule for the team but Daley was extremely pleased with the strength in his left hand and with his stamina and race-fitness in general considering the recent enforced lay-off. He was delighted with the results he returned in the races and especially with his 5th place in the main race of the weekend, the Cock o'the North. Joey Dunlop was a member of the 4-man Armada. The Armoy Road Races are now in their 5th year of running and the main event, "The Race of legends", is named in their honour and memory. Having quickly become a very popular meeting, many top international road racers were entered into the 11 races, including Michael and William Dunlop, Guy Martin, Conor Cummins, Jamie Hamilton and Davy Morgan. Daley was fortunate to have 250cc and 125cc 2-stroke Hondas loaned to him by Logan Racing to compete on alongside his own Honda CBR1000RR and Suzuki GSX-R600. Many thanks indeed go to Logan Racing for giving Daley this great opportunity. With a reputation for being well-organised, the meeting was also blessed with good weather, with the exception of a heavy shower towards the end of practice on Friday which caused 4 practice sessions to be run before the races the following day. And now back in the home of Real Road Racing, Daley was particularly pleased to be able to get so much track time. Indeed, on several occasions he was off one bike and straight out on another! Especially pleased with his performance on the 2-strokes and in the Race of Legends, Daley was delighted with his results in the very strong fields. In Race 1 on the 125cc Honda Daley lost out on a podium position by less than one tenth of a second! The bikes performed very well but a clutch failure on the Suzuki GSX-R600 caused a DNF in the Supersport race. All-in-all a great meeting with some excellent results. In the Newcomer's event he will be riding under number 3, the race number of the late Joey Dunlop. The Manx Grand Prix Festival is recognised as a world-class meeting and in this, it’s 90th anniversary year, it has been rebranded as the “Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling” which will comprise the Manx Grand Prix Races, the Manx Classic Races, the Manx Two Day Trials and the VMCC Manx Rally (which will itself include the Festival of Jurby). All-in-all it’s a two-week motorcycling extravaganza, of which the road racing is the principal component. Riding in the competitive Manx GP will be a demanding and highly useful experience for Daley and it will be an excellent preparation for entering the TT next year as it is held on the same 37.73 mile Mountain Course. It is hoped to be able to post updates on Daley's progress during the MGP fortnight on the website. www.daleymathisonracing.co.uk │ www.facebook.com/DaleyMathisonRacing │ 0785 333 5991 │ [email protected] 6 North View, Murton, Co.
