Role Statement The Position Digital Life Technician, Multimedia Systems Department and Digital Media Systems Department; Division Digital Life Division Classification Grade 3; Value Range 1 Position Type Full-time, Fixed-term until 30 June 2021 Salary Range $67,866 per annum; paid pro-rata (Base of Grade) Position Number MV/3028 Reports to Manager, Digital Media Systems Date Prepared February 2019 Purpose of this Position This position provides specialist technical knowledge and skills to facilitate the delivery and operational oversight of multimedia products and services across all Museums Victoria locations. The role supports the implementation of Museums Victoria’s One Digital Life strategy and the goals of the organisation’s Strategic Plan 2017-2025. Primary Accountability This position is accountable for designing, developing, procuring, installing and maintaining digital media delivery systems, technical infrastructure and digital content in designated galleries, touring exhibitions and public areas; as well as providing audio-visual and multimedia support for multiple stakeholders across the organisation. Duties 1. Design, develop and implement multimedia systems which meet the needs of a broad range of stakeholders across Museums Victoria. 2. In alignment with the One Digital Life strategy: research, test and specify appropriate multimedia systems to deliver technologies and experiences to Museums Victoria standards. Ensure the realisation of technical project briefs and contribute to the other technical requirements of museum projects as required. 3. Specify the electrical and network requirements of technical project briefs and prepare documentation for the procurement and scheduling of necessary works. 4. Play a lead role in the realisation of the One Digital Life strategic plan through the development and maintenance of partnerships with key stakeholders, including designers, developers and producers, so as to ensure project milestones are met.Ensure operational upkeep of designated gallery spaces including documentation, scheduling, procurement, repairs and reinterpretation of ageing technologies. 5. Working with relevant organisational teams, lead the procurement and acquittal of technical resources to realise the technical brief of projects. Monitor expenditure and provide reporting on asset registration, budgeting, and resource allocation. 6. Facilitate and supervise technical work teams, including casuals and contractors, as part of installation, operational maintenance or de-installation of projects. 7. Develop exhibition and gallery support and maintenance documentation for the exhibition, experience or project. 8. Prepare OH&S documentation and procedures necessary for the safe installation, deinstallation and operation of technical works so as to ensure a safe work environment. 9. In alignment with the One Digital Life strategy: research, test and specify appropriate multimedia systems that deliver technologies and experiences to Museums Victoria standards. 10. Comply with Museums Victoria's policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations Note: The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, but within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level. Selection Criteria 1. Demonstrated experience in the interpretation of technical briefs and the design and implementation of digital media systems for exhibition projects. 2. Demonstrated experience in electrical and network planning for digital media systems and knowledge of electrical and network systems. 3. Wide-ranging experience in exhibition systems and processes, including knowledge of audio/visual performance and installation, show control systems, production, digital and computer technologies and their application in an exhibition environment and variety of public applications 4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with and advise staff at all levels and work co-operatively in a team environment. 5. Demonstrated knowledge of the latest OH&S and site safety practices and experience working on an exhibition or theatrical construction site. 6. Demonstrated experience in initiating and leading small technical projects including demonstrated experience in supervising staff and contractors as well as coordinating budgets. 7. Sound research and documentation skills that have been applied to the specification of technical equipment and designs. Relevant experience in contribution to maintenance and operational documentation. 8. An ability to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision 9. A sound knowledge of current trends and developments, including sustainability, within the exhibition and affiliated industries. An established network of industry related contacts is desirable. The incumbent must be prepared to work from each of the Museum's main sites, if required. Inherent Physical Requirements Museums Victoria has a duty of care to all staff.
