Cricklade Panel 13/8/09 12:01 Page 1 THROUGH CRICKLADE TO RIVER, MEADOW AND CANAL Cricklade is the first town on the River Thames. The only Wiltshire town on the banks of the great river. It has its origins as a small Saxon town in the 9th century, The town has a population of around 4,150. The town is at the southern gateway to the Cotswold Water Park which offers activities including sailing, water/jet skiing, fishing and bird watching. Cricklade is surrounded by lovely countryside and is ideal for walking, riding and cycling. Sustrans Route 45 follows the old Cheltenham to Southampton Railway line. Cricklade’s church is a distinctive feature and landmark from some distance around the town. Cricklade’s town festival takes place in June.
