Original Music Television VJs Back Together On SIRIUS Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Nina Blackwood Start Another Revolution in 2004, This Time As Satellite Radio Hosts NEW YORK, NY - May 11, 2004 – SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI), known for delivering the very best commercial-free music and premium sports programming to cars, boats and homes across the U.S., has reunited three of MTV’s original VJs – Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter and Nina Blackwood – as new hosts of its commercial-free, hit music channel Big ‘80s. Goodman, Hunter and Blackwood, along with Martha Quinn and the late J.J. Jackson, were the five original faces and voices of MTV when it debuted on August 1, 1981. Their tenure as hosts of the nation’s first music television network provided them with an in-depth and up-close perspective on the most popular rock/pop music and artists of the 1980s. On SIRIUS, the three are now together again on commercial-free music stream Big ‘80s, which plays all the hit music of one of the most diverse and exciting decades in popular music history. Jackson was to have been one of the reunited hosts on Big ‘80s, but died suddenly on March 17, 2004. Goodman, Hunter and Blackwood have all remained involved in entertainment and/or broadcasting since their VJ days during the 1980s: Mark Goodman hosted radio programs on rock stations in Los Angeles, CA and Chicago, IL. He appeared in TV roles, and hosted TV shows and music specials, before directing music programming for the former Internet radio service Soundbreak.com. He is now producing and hosting the United Airlines audio channel “My Life – The Soundtrack,”and, as a music supervisor, places music in movies and TV shows. He said, “I’ve been searching for the next revolution in music, and I’ve found it at SIRIUS. Playing music on Big ‘80s with my fellow former VJs Alan Hunter and Nina Blackwood is like having lightning strike twice. Though I must say there’s a bitter sweetness to all this, since J.J. Jackson was supposed to be taking the ride with us. He was so looking forward to being on Big ‘80s before he died. But I think you get satellite radio for free in heaven, so I know he’s listening.” Alan Hunter appeared in films and directed, hosted and/or voiced TV shows and commercials for companies such as Time/Life, Blockbuster, Chevrolet, ABC, Fox and the Sundance Channel. With brother Hugh, he formed Hunter Films, an independent film development company that received an Academy Award nomination in 2003 for a short film they co-produced entitled Johnny Flynton. He co-owns the entertainment complex WorkPlay in Birmingham, AL, where he is also executive director of the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival of independent films. Hunter said, “I’m jazzed about being on SIRIUS because it reminds me of my start on MTV – a brand new medium, fab programming, limitless possibilities, irreverent atmosphere, really low pay and no wardrobe budget.” Nina Blackwood remained working in radio and television, providing music reports for “Entertainment Tonight”and co-hosting “Solid Gold.”She now can be seen on TV doing music commentary for CNBC and “Access Hollywood,”does voiceovers for radio and television, and hosts the nationally syndicated ‘80s music radio programs “Absolutely ‘80s”and “New Wave Nation.” She said, “I am thrilled to be part of SIRIUS, along with my old pals Alan and Mark. There’s not much I like more than playin’ and talkin’ about music. Also, being an animal lover, I adore the name ‘SIRIUS’ – the dog star and brightest star in the sky!” Steve Blatter, SIRIUS VP of Music Programming, said, “Mark, Alan and Nina helped pioneer a music and cultural phenomenon in the ‘80s. We’re pleased to reunite these innovators and bring their talents to satellite radio exclusively on SIRIUS.” About SIRIUS SIRIUS provides listeners with over 110 channels of the best commercial-free music, sports, information and entertainment, with digital quality sound coast-to-coast, broadcast daily from New York City, Los Angeles, Nashville, New Orleans, Houston and Daytona.
