In the film, the two commit to tape a striking re-imagined version of “Seventeen” following an explosive live performance at Van Etten’s sold out show at Webster Hall on May 4, 2019, her final headlining show as a New Yorker. Departure also shows Van Etten packing up her studio and thoughtfully ​ ​ recounting how the city shaped her, while sharing a glimpse at her early days in New York through archival footage.
