Music Brian Cadd Musical Arrangement Peter Jones Music Recording Bill Armstrong Studios Brian Cadd was a popular singer songwriter who had been in the bands The Groop and Axiom in the 1960s, and then in the early 1970s went solo. His self-titled debut album was released in October 1972, with the first single Ginger Man. After doing the scores for Alvin Purple and the sequel Alvin Purple Rides Again - in which he also appears - and releasing his third solo album, Moonshine in 1974, Cadd went to the United States to work, not returning to Australia until 1993. While some sources suggest that the title song briefly appeared in the top 40 in February 1974 at No. 29, the Go-Set Australian top 40 charts do not list it. Others suggest it peaked at No. 49. It was nonetheless ubiquitous in terms of radio airplay on pop music stations at the time.
