The Rev Locke had been at Barlanark Greyfrars for nine years. After a period of time where we have been unable to call due to the presbytery planning process, permission has been granted to call a Minister without restriction on full tenure by the Presbytery of Glasgow. We’re now excited and praying for God to bring a minister to lead us forward as a congregation. We are looking for a minister who is primarily passionate about the preaching and teaching of God’s Word and who has a prayerful enthusiasm for reaching out to our community with the Good News of Jesus Christ. The Minister will be a pastor and friend, will have the commitment and drive to help the congregation grow in their faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and will help them share that knowledge with the people of the parish and community. We are a Priority Area congregation situated in the East End of Glasgow with numerous uniformed organisations and a church cafe. We also have a vibrant youth project, led by our two full time youth workers, committed to sharing the gospel with children and young people in our community. The area to the north of Edinburgh Road is Wellhouse and the area below it is Barlanark. Parish Details: A wee bit about who we are The area served by the church is one in transition. Housing patterns are changing from being exclusively local authority housing to now having a number of privately owned and occupied houses. Mixed tenancy seems likely to continue with the support of housing co-operatives. There are three housing associations in the parish: Gardeen Housing Association, Calvay Housing Association, Wellhouse Housing Association. The parish is deemed a ‘Priority Area’ by the Church of Scotland. The popula- tion density has reduced in recent years as a result of the housing changes noted Church & Community above. We see this all as part of our mission to share the Gospel in our parish. Pete Stewart is employed by the central Church of Scotland, and as a church we managed to raise funds for a second youth worker, Pete Bell. At present we are seeking to secure funding for the long term security of the Project. At present the youth workers work in the following schools, and the minister would be Chaplain by invitation of the head teacher. Sandaig Aultmore Park Bannerman Eastmuir Primary Primary High School primary school School School (ASN SCHOOl) Church Buildings and Manse The Church was established as one of the earliest church extension charges after World War II. The first service was conducted on the 13th December 1953. The original Hall Church was constructed in 1956 with generous aid from the Women’s Guild. The Glasgow Presbytery Buildings Plan has rated our church buildings ‘1b’ which means they will remain in use for at least the next 10 years. A great deal of work, however, needs to be done on our Church Sanctuary which was built in 1970 and now needs upgrading and repaired. General upgrades of the rest of the church are also required. In the Summer of 2012 we raised money for and have now had a new boiler installed which we hope will make a big difference both to the heating of the church and the energy bills. The Church manse is a modern two storey villa, consisting of two public rooms, study, four bedrooms, fully fitted kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom en suite and downstairs toilet. The house is fully central heated and has an alarm system. There is an attached double garage and a well tended garden. The manse is situated in a quiet residential area (Swinton) which lies approximately 1.5 miles from the church premises. The manse is very close to Swinton Primary and the high school is Bannerman which is about a mile away. Locally there are a number of amenities including: The Bridge which has a library, theatre and swimming pool and the Fort shopping centre which also has a number of restaurants and a new cinema.
