RAMAYANA TOUR Negombo→ Trincomalee → Koneswaram Temple →Kandy→Nuwara-Eliya→ Kithulgala →Colombo Day 01- Airport → Negombo At the Airport our Chauffeur Guide will welcome you with a southern hospitality and take you on trip to the charming coastal town of Negombo, also known as the ‘Little Rome’ of Sri Lanka. (approx. 30 minutes). Negombo is famous as a fishing village North of Colombo with a Dutch built Canal running through. The Canal itself is a hive of activity with fishermen traveling up and down in their gaily painted boats. On the shores of the canal you will find many homes and many species of birds including the spectacular Kingfishers. Overnight stay in Negombo Day 02- Negombo → Trincomalee After breakfast, proceed to Trincomalee (approx. 05 hrs.). En-route visit Munneswaram Hindu temple in Chillaw. This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva and has been in existence since 1000 CE, legend states this is where Lord Rama prayed to Shiva after ending the battle with Ravana, to succeed the sin of killing a Brahmin. While Sita did the Shiva pooja at Rameswaram, Rama did it in Munneswaram. Day 03- Trincomalee → Koneswaram temple After enjoying your breakfast proceed to visit the famous Koneswaram temple - one of the iconic Ramayana related places in Sri Lanka. RAMAYANA TOUR Negombo→ Trincomalee → Koneswaram Temple →Kandy→Nuwara-Eliya→ Kithulgala →Colombo Thirukonamalai Konesar Temple – The Temple of the Thousand Pillars and Dakshina-Then Kailasam is a classical-medieval Hindu temple complex in Trincomalee. The most sacred of the Pancha Ishwarams of Sri Lanka, it was built significantly during the reign of the early Cholas and the Five Dravidians of the Early Pandyan Kingdom atop Konesar Malai, a promontory overlooking Trincomalee District, Gokarna bay and the Indian Ocean. Its Pallava, Chola, Pandyan and Jaffna design reflect a continual Tamil Saivite influence in the Vannimai region from the classical period. The monument contains its main shrine to Shiva in the form Kona- Eiswara, shortened to Konesar and is a major place for Hindu pilgrimage, at its height of fame labelled the "Rome of the Gentiles/Pagans of the Orient". Connected at the mouth of the Mahavilli Ganga River to the footprint of Shiva at Sivan Oli Padam Malai at the river's source, the temple symbolically crowns the flow of the Ganges River from Shiva's head of Mount Kailash to his feet. Overnight in Trincomalee. Day 04- Koneswaram temple → Kandy Set off on a sightseeing tour after breakfast to the great city of Kandy (approx. 04 hrs.). Kandy Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka, located in the central province, Sri Lanka. It is the second largest city in the country after Colombo. It was the last capital of the ancient King's era of Sri Lanka. Temple of Tooth Temple of Scared Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. You can also make an optional visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens, a garden filled with a huge collection of orchids and other herbs and lovely flowers surrounded by tall trees. Report Date 2 RAMAYANA TOUR Negombo→ Trincomalee → Koneswaram Temple →Kandy→Nuwara-Eliya→ Kithulgala →Colombo Day 05- Kandy → Nuwara Eliya After enjoying your meal, you'll be heading towards Nuwara Eliya and en-route visiting the remarkable Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, Ramboda (approx. 2.5 hrs.). According to the ancient stories, Ramboda is an area, where the forces of Rama's gather to fight against King Ravana. This temple was built by the Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka and dedicated to Hanuman. This temple houses for 16 feel height statue of Hanuman. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya. Day 06- Nuwara Eliya → Kithulgala After having your breakfast proceed to Kithulgala to enjoy a day of adventure (approx. 06 hrs.). Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. It is in the wet zone rain forest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wetlands in the country. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the year, especially in February, when the dry period takes over. Kitulgala is also famous for white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometers upstream and popular for adventure-based training programs. Overnight stay in Galle. Day 07- Kithulgala → Colombo After breakfast, proceed to Colombo (approx. 2.5 hrs.). En route visit another Ramayana place known as Rhumassala Temple of the Unawatuna Bay. Rhumassala hill and the surrounding area that encompasses Unawatuna are steeped in legends and folklore. According to the Ramayana, the ancient Sanskrit epic, Hanuman the Indian monkey warrior god required several medicinal herbs in order to treat the wounded in his army during his battle against the demon king Ravana of Sri Lanka. Unable to find the herbs on the Island, Hanuman returned to India and brought back a piece of the Himalayas with the required plants but accidently dropped it at Rumassala. Local villagers attribute this as the source of many rare medicinal plants found in the area to this day. On top the hill there is a large glistening Buddhist dagoba popularly known as the peace pagoda, built with the assistance of Japanese monks. At the entrance to the temple there is a large statue depicting Hanuman.
