I Trevor Hassett - Programme editor and Mid Tipperary PRO -.-J 3 A great final in prospect By Noel Dundon (Tipperary Star) This afternoon's Centenary Agri MId Tipperary senior hurling final in Templetuohy is a much anticipated clash of two of the fiercest rivals in the game in The Premier County. Defending champions Thurles Sarsfields will place their title on the line when they see Loughmore Castleiney squaring up to them for what will surely be a filting showcase final for the Mid division. Sarsfields have been the standard bearers in the county for some lime now, but loughmore Castieiney have consistently been the ones to cause them most trouble. And, popular opinion would suggest that they are the ones most likely to threaten to take the Dan Breen Cup from their clutches 100, even allowing for the fact that Dram·lnch defeated the Blues in a pulsating game of hurling last Sunday evening in the county championship, thereby forcing a three way play-off. How Sarsfields react to that game will have a big bearing on the outcome on teday's Mid final. If the defeat has dented confidence, no better men than Loughmore Castleiney to smell it and exploit the weakness . If the defeat has strengthened their resolve, there could well be a backlash on the way. So, it depends on which Sarsfields turns up then? Perhaps, but this is a two horse race and in a two horse race. anything can happen. When one of those horses happens to be Loughmore Castieiney. you can bet your bottom dollar, It won't be straight forward. Sarsfields defence got a lesson against Dram-Inch and they will know that affording Loughmore Castleiney any latitude will be fatal too. You just cannot give the McGraths any freedom or they will punish. The same can be said of the Sarsfields attack where Pa Bourke, Conor Stakelum, Aidan McCormack, Lar Corbett and Stephen Cahill are lethal. They have added Rory Purcell and Rory Owan to the attack this year too while in defence Michael Purcell and David Corbett have come and have made an impression. Of course Sarsfields are without the services of Billy McCarthy, Jack Derby and Conor Lanigan - all men who have worn county jerseys at various grades - so their strength in depth is not quite what most people are suggesting. Loughmore Castleiney claimed their last championship decider in the grade in Tem­ pletuohy in 2016 and they will really fancy their chances teday. Granted they are getting plenty of game time between the two codes - they played Kilsheelan on Tuesday evening last in the senior football championship and have had a quick recovery time in order to get right for the Sars'. But, if any club knows how to handle this, it is Loughmore Castleiney. They are well used to fighting fires on two fronts and have the ability to decompartmental­ ise one from the other, so as not to allow results in one code to affect the other. Confidence will be high in both camps heading into this clash and this will surely make for an exciting encounter. This is the sixth year of Centenary Agri's sponsorship of the com­ petition - in that time. Sarsfields have lifted the title twice (2015 and 2017), while Loughmore Castleiney have lifted it once (2016). The Blues have 45 titles to their name, while Loughmore CastJeiney have 12.
