European Travel Project

European Travel Project You have been chosen by the travel company The Lonely Planet to create amazing trips for students your age to learn about the history, culture and geography of Europe. Your job is to plan a trip that is educational, enriching and fun! You will create a blog or website to inform students of what to expect on their trip. The travel company has one stipulation- you must choose one country from each of the four regions below: Regions British Isles and Scandinavia Northwestern Europe Southern Europe Eastern Europe Iceland France Portugal Estonia Ireland Switzerland Spain Latvia United Kingdom Belgium Italy Lithuania Countries Norway Netherlands Greece Poland Sweden Germany Czech Republic Finland Austria Slovakia Denmark Romania Step One: Decide on the two countries you will be visiting, they must be from a different region of Europe. Step Two: Do your research to find the points of interest- you will need to choose 2 for each country you visit. Once you've chosen them, take notes!! Use the links below to get started. Remember it is a good idea to use more than one source for your information. DON'T FORGET - you want to describe these places to other students to encourage them to choose your trip! World Heritage Sites in Europe Lonely Planet- The company that is hiring you. Check it out- they already have plenty of great resources Things to do in Europe - from Trip Advisor - Check with your teacher if you are unsure if a feature qualifies as cultural or historical landmark. Great Cities of the World - Just make sure the city you click on is in Europe! Europe Cities Travel Guide - Try clicking on "key attractions" once you've reached the page for the city you want. Step three: Write a descriptive and informative paragraph about each of the historical, cultural or natural points of interest you have researched. Remember to use words that call upon the five senses to make the writing come to life! Help us see it. Help us hear it. Remember your audience- make it interesting enough to have a student choose your trip! Step Four: Tell students what currency (money) they will need to bring for a visit to that country. You can find that information here Explain the exchange rate for the currency to the dollar (find it here). Calculate how many dollars a drink would cost you in 5 units of that currency. Step Five: Language- explain what is the main language spoken in that country and explain how to say the following phrases in that language: • Hello, how are you? • Thank you • Where can I find…. • Goodbye! Step six: Put all of this information together in a wonderful presentation of your choice! This is a major grade. The final project presentations will be made on Friday, April 7th. You will have minor “checkpoint” grades (**dates subject to change) .
