Architectural Lighting Design

Architectural Lighting Design Why Lighting Design ? Davis Partnership’s Lighting Design team combines the technical expertise required to design lighting systems with a comprehensive understanding of how light affects the experience of space. Our knowledge of both functional and aesthetic requirements allows us to design highly efficient, effective and unique systems. We consider these factors, among others, when designing lighting systems: > Function > Energy and Environmental Considerations > Behavioral Effects > Aesthetics 1 > Budget Function Successful lighting design starts with an analysis of the func- tional requirements of the space. Daylight and artificial lighting must be integrated to support 2 usage. Thorough consideration must be given to elements such as glare, visual comfort, and task illumination. We carefully select light sources to deliver the appropriate quantity and quality of light, and strongly believe that there is no “one size fits all” solution for lighting design. PROJECT COMPLETED BY LISA BARTLETT PRIOR TO JOINING DAVIS PARTNERSHIP ARCHITECTS 3 4 Energy and Environmental Considerations As energy codes become more stringent and energy costs escalate, projects benefit from 5 a team member who specializes in lighting in order to arrive at an outcome that balances energy code compliance, sustainability, and evolving lighting technology. Behavioral Effects Ongoing research demonstrates the substantial effects of light on human health and behavior. We leverage our knowledge of lighting’s influence on health 6 into thoughtful designs that positively influence outcomes for staff and users. 8 Aesthetics Lighting profoundly affects our perception of space. A remark- able architectural design can be 9 rendered lifeless with poor light- ing, and an unremarkable space can be drastically improved with excellent lighting design. Budget Lighting is one of the portions of a project most likely to exceed budgets. We have developed a unique specification method that introduces fairness, accountability and transparency to lighting costs. We are driven by the desire to help the client acquire the right lighting at the best cost. 10 11 Lighting Design Services Davis Partnership’s Lighting Design team offers services for both interior and exterior lighting including: > Existing lighting conditions evaluation > Energy usage and code analysis > Luminaire and source comparison and analysis > Architectural and decorative lighting fixture plans and specifications 12 > AGI 3.2 photometric and illuminance calculations > LEED calculations and documentation for lighting > Control strategies, plans and specifications > Energy code calculations and LEED documentation for lighting > Custom fixture designs > Daylighting analysis > Lamping plans and lamp specifications > Construction phase services including site visits, submittal review, and aim and focus > Pre-occupancy focus, aiming, and LED/DMX programming coordination 13 DENVER OFFICE 2301 Blake Street, Suite 100 Denver, Colorado 80205 303.861.8555 www.davispartnership.com VIRGINIA OFFICE 635 South Fairfax Street Alexandria, Virginia 22314 703.838.8414 www.healingdesign.com.
