
January 2017 A simpler and smarter way to travel SmartRider in Karratha The Public Transport Authority is launching SmartRider in Karratha. From January 2017 you will be able to travel using the same SmartRider that is used on Transperth services and in other regional centres. With the introduction of SmartRider, the Karratha services will now operate under the name of TransKarratha. SmartRider Guide Transperth has developed a comprehensive guide on how to use SmartRider, entitled SmartRider Guide. Although this guide is primarily designed for Transperth services, almost all of the information is relevant for passengers using SmartRider on TransKarratha services. You can obtain a copy of the guide by calling 13 62 13 and asking for a copy to be sent to you. Alternatively, all the information is available on the Transperth website. What if I have existing tickets? We recognise that some users of TransKarratha over when the new SmartRider system is launched. Passengers will have three months from the launch Outlet and receive a refund on their MultiRider. Where do I get a SmartRider? Standard and concession passengers Standard and concession passengers must purchase their SmartRider. The cards have an initial purchase fee of $10 for standard and $5 for concession cards. They can be purchased at any Transperth InfoCentre or authorised SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet (RSO). A Concession SmartRider card (not including Student, Tertiary and Seniors SmartRider) can be obtained by anyone who holds a valid concession entitlement. An ‘Application for Concession SmartRider’ must be completed in person, and entitlement, such as a Health Care card, will need to be presented at the time of applying for a Concession SmartRider. By completing this form you authorise Transperth to automatically check your proof of concession entitlement with Centrelink and renew your Concession SmartRider. If you are no longer entitled to concession travel, your SmartRider will automatically revert to a Standard SmartRider. ‘Application for Concession SmartRider’ forms are available from any Transperth InfoCentre or RSO. Alternatively, visit transperth.wa.gov.au to download a form. Tertiary SmartRider A Tertiary SmartRider is the only way to recieve a concession fare as a student. We don’t accept student proof that you are a full-time tertiary student. Part-time or external students are not entitled to tertiary concession fares. Students must present an Application for Tertiary SmartRider form that has been authorised by their tertiary institution’s administration at the TransKarratha RSO. A card purchase fee of $5 applies. Student SmartRider The only way to access the Student fare. Students can obtain the Student fare by using their Student SmartRider. Student SmartRiders must also be presented as proof of concession on all Transperth, Transwa and regional town bus services. Value must be added to a Student SmartRider to Students failing to stand for adults, particularly adults with special needs (e.g. seniors, people with disabilities and pregnant women) when asked to do fare suspended for 30 days. The 30-day suspension student has been issued with a suspension notice. During this 30-day period students can continue to use their SmartRider but they will be charged at the concession rate for the zones they travel. Primary Students To obtain a Student SmartRider, primary school students must complete an ‘Application for Student SmartRider’ form, have it authorised by their school administration, and send it to Monitor WA. The initial SmartRider card for a primary student is free of charge, but a $5 fee will be charged for all subsequent cards. This payment can be made by mailing a $5 cheque or money order payable to ‘Monitor WA’ to the following address: Monitor WA – SmartRider PO Box 10, Westminster WA 6061 The Student SmartRider card will be posted out in approximately seven days. If students have lost or damaged their Student SmartRider, they should hotlist the card and reapply for a new card by completing an Student SmartRider form and send it to Monitor WA. Students must note that when ordering replacement Student SmartRider cards during school holidays, they must still complete an application form and mail it to Monitor WA. Application forms without school stamps will be accepted during school holidays and SmartRider cards will be sent to the address provided. Prior to use, a minimum of $10 must be added to your Student SmartRider. Secondary Students Student SmartRider depending on whether your school is a “participating school” or registered for online ordering. 1. Participating school application if it’s a participating school. A participating school automatically processes a Student SmartRider application for all new students, receives the cards and issues them to students. 2. Non–participating school application An ‘Application for Student SmartRider’ form must be completed, authorised by the student’s school administration and sent to Monitor WA. Applications must be mailed with a $5 cheque or money order payable to ‘Monitor WA’ to the following address: Monitor WA – SmartRider PO Box 10, Westminster WA 6061 The Student SmartRider card will be posted out in approximately seven days. 3. Online application Some secondary schools are registered for online ordering. To see if your school is registered visit idcards.monitorwa.com.au. There will be a $5 fee for all cards purchased through the online system. Your card will be posted to either your home address or to your school administration. Prior to use, a minimum of $10 must be added to SmartRider cards to use them to pay for fares. Replacement Cards If students have lost or damaged their Student SmartRider, they should hotlist their card and reapply for a new card by either: • Completing an ‘Application for Student SmartRider’ form, have it approved and stamped by the school and send it to Monitor WA (Non- participating schools). • Ordering a new card through your school administration (Participating Schools). • Ordering it online (Online programme). During school holidays students can either order a card online or send in the Application for Student SmartRider without the school stamp. Seniors SmartRider SmartRider is available to all seniors who are in possession of a Western Australian Seniors Card. Applications for Seniors SmartRider cards should be made to the WA Seniors Card Centre (Country 1800 671 233; Metro (08) 6551 8800). The initial issue of Seniors SmartRider is free of charge. For more information on the Seniors SmartRider pick up a Senior SmartRider brochure or visit transperth.wa.gov.au Pensioner SmartRider The Pensioner SmartRider is available to all Aged, Disability Support and Carer Pension cardholders residing in Western Australia. An ‘Application for Concession SmartRider’ form must be completed in person at any Transperth InfoCentre or SmartRider Retail Sales Outlet. entitlement, such as a Pensioner Concession Card, will need to be presented at the time of applying for a Pensioner SmartRider. For more information on the Pensioner SmartRider pick up a Pensioner SmartRider brochure or visit transperth.wa.gov.au Hotlisting SmartRider cards To hotlist a lost or stolen SmartRider card, call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 or visit a Transperth InfoCentre. A hotlisted SmartRider may be used up to 48 hours delays in data transmissions. Once hotlisted, the value of a card can be transferred to a new card. An unregistered SmartRider card cannot be hotlisted. Adding value to your SmartRider Once you have been issued with your SmartRider, you will need to add value to it. A minimum of $10 must be added to your SmartRider card to allow you to use it on services. Seniors and Pensioners travelling only during the free travel period do not have to add any funds to their SmartRider. You can add value to your SmartRider in a number of ways. These include: • Autoload • Add-Value Machines (Perth only) • BPAY • On board buses and ferries • Transperth InfoCentres • SmartRider Retail Sales Outlets (RSOs). SmartRider provides either a 15% or 25% discount for travel, depending on the type of add value method used. The 25% discount is only available for Autoload card-holders (discounted fares are rounded to the nearest whole cent based on normal rounding convention). There is no further discount to the Student fare. Register your SmartRider card (Recommended) If a registered card is lost or stolen, the value on it is protected and can be transferred to a replacement SmartRider card. Student, Seniors, Tertiary, Concession, Pensioner and Autoload enabled SmartRiders are automatically registered. Register your card by phoning the InfoLine on 13 62 13 or completing a SmartRider registration form. A registered card will also allow the holder to check their transaction history and card balance online at transperth.wa.gov.au. Using your SmartRider To begin using your SmartRider you simply ‘tag on’ system to calculate the correct and lowest fare.
