The groundhog did President not see his shadow so that means a early spring! YAHOO!!! Chief Instructor Bowling Pin Match Director For me that is good news, when it gets below 70 this Ray Radank Yankee is cold. It is also time to start preparing for the March election Vice President meeting coming up on Sunday March 13th. This meeting is Gerald Hickey our main board of directors annual election meeting that was moved from the December meeting because there was Secretary just too much going on in addition to the elections and it John Bentley made for a long day. Treasurer The board positions that are up for election or re-election OSA Web Master are; vice President Gerry Hickey, Treasurer Feg Henkel, and I.T. Director Director at large Bill Heffernan. Feg Henkel Gerry, Feg, and Bill have all said that they will run for Director reelection which is a two year term. In accordance with or Dave Michaels By-Laws, at the December meeting we asked for two members to be on the Nominating Committee. We also Director asked that if anyone was interested in running for one of the Bruce Dill open positions to let us know. The whole group was so quiet you could hear the brisket cooking. As an optimist I take that Director to mean everybody is satisfied with the work we are doing. Bill Heffernan Our By-Laws require that the slate of candidates be President Emeritus presented to the Board of Directors at the Board’s February Mike Bryant-Chief Range meeting, which was done on Monday, February 8th. Officer Nominations for the open positions will be open for Floor Nominations at the March Meeting. If anyone is interested in Dan Sauro running make sure you are at the March meeting and have you name placed in nomination. The election process is Range Volunteers covered in Article IV of the By-Laws. Speaking of brisket, due to the over whelming surprise NRA Chief Range Safety demand for burgers and dogs at the December meeting the Officer menu will be expanded to include them regularly along with Ray Radank/Feg Henkel the chicken, shrimp, and brisket. Please remember that all this food is a big nut to crack each Range Safety Officer quarterly meeting so anything you can donate to offset the Tom & Joyce Schulke food expense is a big help. We have set a note pad by the Gerry Hickey, Bill Heffernan sign in sheet for donations. just put your name and amount John & Theresa Griffin down and you can put the $$ in the black cash box above Rich Brown, Fred Bernstein the sign in sheet. Dave Vanderwall, Dave Volunteers are also needed for food prep and cooking so if Michaels you can spare the time we start setting up at 10:00 and start cooking at 11:00 and start serving food at noon. Louise is Ladies Class good at cracking the whip yelling mush and hey mule, I can Joyce Schulke see Louise sneaking up on me with a cast iron skillet now. 2 Rifle Range Update The rifle range opened on Wednesday January 27th and continues to be open on Wednesdays only due to lack of qualified range safety officers. As we get more volunteers the rifle range will be open more days. Currently the rifle range can accommodate four shooters and target stations are marked at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards. Shooters so far have left with smiles. Tom and Dave are the Wednesday safety officers so when you see them please thank them for their service. Bob Sabatino and his Rifle Regiment build a very nice Rifle Rack for use by the shooters. Give Bob and his Regiment a thank you for the Rack and all the work they have done on a volunteer basis. Not only dow we need to fill slots for the Rifle Range but we continue to need RSOs to staff the pistol range. As much as we like to be at the range we need more RSOs so that RSOs currently manning the range can get some time off to take care of other things, such as Dr appointments, vacations, etc. And sometimes we get sick and need to stay home. So to ensure that the range stays open and we can utilize the rifle range, we paid a lot of money for it, as it was intended, WE NEED SOME FOLKS TO STEP UP AND VOLUNTEER. March Meeting Agenda As usual our own Epicurian Chef Ray will be cooking up a storm with the usual fare. Eating starts at noon. If you can see your way clear to show up early, help will be appreciated. The business meeting starts at 2 pm: • Pledge of Alligence • Establishment of a Quorum • Presentation of Officers’ Reports • Election • Explanation of the process • Presentation of the Candidates • Floor Nominations • Election of Officers and Directors • Ballot counting • Presentation of the election results and elected Officers and Directors • Old Business • New Business • Adjourn 3 New Faces WOW! what a class for new members we had on Sunday the 7th. we were expecting about 14 new members for orientation but they didn't stop coming in until the count hit 28! So we had no choice but to hold the class outside in the cold. I had two heaters running but it was still too hard for everyone to huddle around them to stay warm. Class time went faster than anticipated due to the cold, not to many questions were asked. After lunch Tom Schulke gave the safety demonstration and talk, all were very attentive. When Tom was done with safety Bill took over with our requirements for proper target placement and all the newbies did well. Gerry Hickey finished up with the range commands and Ray told them he was rabid and would bite anyone who violated the yellow safety line on a cold range, BARK, BARK! Feg our treasurer and computer whiz took longer than expected by having to do some unexpected but required maintenance on the ID badge printer. Everybody was patient while Feg finished the new badges. Ray was helping Feg with the grudge work on the ID badges so he was not able to pass them out and shake hands with all the new members and welcome them to the club so Gerry took over that task. All the instructors teamed up and worked with two new members apiece until all were checked off in safe gun handling thanks to Vitto and the other board members for a big job well done. There were also a lot of comments on how easy this newbie class was to work with, WELCOME EVERYONE! Bowling Pin Shoot What a great event we had on Saturday, February 13th. We had excellent weather and a large turnout, 26 shooters. The laughter and comaradarie among the shooters was more fun that the shooting itself, well maybe. We had plenty of volunteers to help setup, and rotated scorekeepers and safety officers enough to keep everyone fresh. It was no surprise that Fred Johnson showed us all how it is done with a combined time of 17.28 sec. Join us for the next Bowling Pin Shoot on Saturday, March 12. Speaking of having fun at our events, don’t forget the Steel Challenge Event on the 4th Saturday of the month, and IDPA Shoot on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Both of these events are coming up. Come on out and have some fun. 4 OSA Pistol Poker Individually or as a group, another fun and sometimes profitable event is Pistol Poker. The specifics of pistol poker are presented in detail on our website so check it out. Our inaguaration week provided two winners. Jumbo won the weekly pot with 4 Tens, while Gus Szabronski won the game played by the Tuesday Morning Villages group. Gus beat out the group with a Straight Flush. Ironically Gus is the Brother in Law and was a guest of Roger Ferris, Roger had 4 Aces. Pistol Poker uses a target that has the entire deck of 52 on it. The target is placed at a distance specified by the firearm you are going to shoot. The game is 7 Card Stud. You shoot 7 rounds at the target. If you shoot more, you are disqualified and no refund. Obtain a target from the RSO for a $5 entry fee. Shoot the hand, no time limit. The RSO will verify the target is valid and it will be held in the OSA Office/Class Room. On Tuesday morning the previous weeks targets will be scored by the Tuesday RSO and a winner determined. The winner splits the pot 50/50 with OSA. Not only do you have a chance at some $$ but OSA get some $$ which go back into the general treasurery. The Firing Line OSA Range Safety 1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
