Like in all great battles, there were acts of heroism along the way. Most bands had little adequate protection against such severe conditions, but they performed professionally at each contest with a smile on their faces. The ‘scratch band’ from the Royal Northern College of Music was perhaps the best example, intent on showing that all its hard work and preparation was not going to be in vain.
