Wireless personal area networks will proliferate early in the millennium and the IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN’s) will provide the leadership in the IEEE 802 Standards Committees to establish open standards for these WPAN’s. The IEEE P802.15 Working Group for WPANs will develop Wireless Personal Area Network standards for short-range wireless networks. The Working Group is cog- nizant of emerging industry specifications, viz., BluetoothTM , HomeRFTM, etc. and realizes that it is important to build on the work of these groups as they enjoy significant market interest and industry participation. One of the primary motivations for this Working Group is to ensure the best use of a shared medium.
