Page 2 Page 3 W a u ¬le f mn o® o f e National Volunteer Week is an important time for us to recognise the selfl ess volunteers that donate their time to help those who are less fortunate throughout the state. This year the theme was ‘Making a world of difference’, and with over three quarters of our workforce comprised of volunteers it would be possible to feed as many people as we do without the help of volunteers each and every day. In 2018, Foodbank WA was supported by 200 regular volunteers and over 1200 corporate volunteers that helped sort and pack food donations or prepare and cook frozen meals in the community kitchen, all for distribution throughout metro and regional WA. Volunteer breakfasts, courtesy of Herbert Smith Freehills and Dome Cafes, were held in Perth, Albany, Bunbury, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Peel to thank our wonderful volunteers. Foodbank Peel Volunteers N £m¤sr ¥ P js t fi g gs ¦n We are extremely excited to welcome Duc Pham to the Foodbank family. Duc is the founder of Perth Business Network, which strives for a more progressive Perth business community by advocating for change, progress and innovation. Duc and his team are hosting a series of lunches at Victory Offi ces to help shine a spotlight on the growing issue of hunger here in Western Australia and to raise much needed meals for those going without. They also pounded the pavement for Foodbank WA in this year’s HBF Run for a Reason. Duc Pham Foodbank WA Ambassador A§¨ ©es Ms i ªc« AGL and West Coast Eagles are taking on hunger again this year with AGL Metres for Meals. For the second consecutive year, AGL is generously donating meals to Foodbank WA for every kilometre Eagles ‘Running Machine’ Andrew Gaff covers during a home game. The fi rst year of the campaign was a huge success last year, with over 57,000 meals donated thanks to Gaffy’s hard running and funds raised in an AGL staff raffl e. We are thrilled to be partnering with West Coast and their Premier Partner AGL again this year to provide food for families experiencing hunger. Fans of all ages were eager to have their photo taken with the 3.2 metre characters for a gold coin donation. This fantastic initiative raised $500, which was generously matched by Pinjarra Bakery, providing 2,000 meals for people in need throughout the Peel region. Megan Reynolds Peel Branch Manager Bf I ¬s i ­i k t v Scott Pape, aka The Barefoot Investor, sold over 1.5 million copies of his fi rst book and has now turned his attention to family fi nances. His latest book’s ‘give jar’ concept is inspiring children like Alyssa and Daniel to help provide food for people going without. It turns out Pape is incredibly generous himself, donating 20,000 copies of his Barefoot Investor for Families book to Foodbank nationally. Which we passed on to our charity partners that offer fi nancial counselling to families experiencing hardship. Alyssa and Daniel donate to Foodbank Peel R o ±e­n – F®b° W² The 10th annual HBF Run for a Reason was held on Sunday 19 May and for the fi rst time ever participants had the chance to walk, run or roll for Foodbank WA. Participants have raised over $9 million for more than 190 charities over the lifetime of the event, and Foodbank WA is now a chosen charity for this fantastic community event. A huge shout out to the energetic Perth Business Network team and everyone else that ran and donated to help fi ght hunger. While 30% of men’s overall health is determined by genetics, 70% is controllable through lifestyle factors such as improved nutrition, reducing alcohol consumption, and getting a good night sleep. Our free Food Sensations for Adults workshops are a great way to learn how to make healthier food choices and reduced your risk of lifestyle- related diseases. The BHP Pilbara team celebrated with a range of community activities during their visit, one of the many highlights was the long-table lunch in Marble Bar. Our latest recipe book is created by our talented Foodbank WA nutrionists and contains eleven delicious new recipes. Each dish will be cooked by thousands of students across WA in our Food Sensations Schools sessions this year, and they will get a copy, so they can try out all of the recipes at home. Page 4 Page 5 M ft s¦o­ h°s Ph ²p Our Perth Airport School Fruit Van is now delivering free fruit to over 70 schools across the Perth Metropolitan area, thanks to additional funding provided by Perth Airport and the ongoing support of the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation. Many of our School Breakfast Program schools notice that many students have little or no access to fresh fruit throughout the day, so we are thrilled to be able to provide a free weekly delivery sourced directly from our generous growers in the South West.
