St. Agate “Animal House” is commemorated with a plaque located at 755 E. 11th Ave., between Alder and Hilyard Streets. This was the location of the infamous Delta House Fraternity, which has since been torn down and the site redeveloped. The food fight scene was shot in the student union cafeteria on the University of Oregon campus. “Stand By Me” was filmed at locations around Eugene and in the historic communities of Brownsville and Cottage Grove, both a short drive from Eugene. The historic Shelton-McMurphy-Johnson house, located on 4th Ave., as it passes Skinner’s Butte across from the Amtrak Station, has been used in several motion pictures. It is easily recognized in “Grand Tour: Disaster In Time.” Most recently it was used for scenes in “The Sisters.” Valley River Center was used as the set for “How to Beat the High Cost of Living.” Susan St. James hosted an early morning radio show in Eugene while starring in the movie before her set call time. A memorial to Ken Kesey is located in the center of town at Broadway and Willamette. His books “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Sometimes A Great Notion” were both made into motion pictures that were shot in Oregon. Ken Kesey lived most of his life in Pleasant Hill, a few minutes east of Eugene. Several prominent filmmakers live unnoticed in Pleasant Hill. “The Way West” cast and crew spent the first month of shooting on a set built just outside of Coburg, an historic farming community immediately north of Eugene. The first feature film shot in Eugene was the silent film “Ed’s Coed.” It was Harrison Ford had appeared in about 4 films, some uncredited created by students of the University of Oregon in 1929. before performing in “Getting Straight.” This student protest story of the 60’ was shot on the campus of Eugene’s Lane Spencer’s Butte Park Community College in the summer of 1969, before it opened Hiking www.eugenefilmfest.org for its first academic year..
