LEHIGH COUNTY SCHOOLS JOINT PURCHASING BOARD NEWS September 2004 DISTRIBUTION CENTER CONSTRUCTION Construction of the Lehigh County Schools Distribution Center 18,000 sq ft. facility continues to move forward. ORDER ENTRY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (OMS) The Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI) has completed the implementation of the Order Entry Management System (OMS). All employees have been trained and purchasing is now automated. The first phase schools are in the process of loading and building databases in their OMS software. First phase schools are as follows: Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 Northwestern Lehigh School District Salisbury Township School District Southern Lehigh School District The second phase of OMS implementation is scheduled to begin in October. Schools slated for the second phase are as follows: Northern Lehigh School District Parkland School District Whitehall-Coplay School District Lehigh County schools superintendents will view a demonstration of the OMS in mid-September. eSchoolMall company officers will present the demonstration. Page 1 SHELVING DONATION KIA Motors will be donating $25,000 worth of shelving units for use in the distribution center. Another Lehigh Valley distribution center equipment vendor has expressed preliminary interest in donating state-of-the-art technology sortation equipment and technology. DISTRIBUTION NETWORK Conversations continue with the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 on the delivery function of products utilizing their existing Lehigh County Delivery System. ATHLETIC/PHYSICAL ED SUPPLY ADVISORY COMMITTEE The business administrators were asked to assign an advisory committee member to this new committee. The main purpose of the advisory committee is to strengthen the effectiveness of the cooperative purchasing function. The functions of this advisory committee include the following: 1. Make recommendations and provide technical assistance in defining the products or services to be purchased. 2. Provide suggestions on which products should be housed in the Lehigh County Schools Central Distribution Center. 3. Assist in forecasting trends of products use. 4. Evaluate suggestions for product update and modification, expansion or reduction of product line and quality product line. 5. Support and strengthen relationship with vendors and suppliers. Below are the individuals that will serve on the Athletic/Physical Ed Supply Advisory Committee: Allentown School District To Be Determined Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 N/A Catasauqua Area School District Kevin Roadarmel East Penn School District Dennis Ramella Lehigh Carbon Community College To Be Determined Lehigh Career & Technical Institute Randy Hensinger Northern Lehigh School District Glenn Rissmiller Northwestern Lehigh School District Jason Zimmerman Parkland School District Michael Dobil Salisbury Township School District Monica Deeb Southern Lehigh School District Donald Harakal Whitehall-Coplay School District Robert Hartman Page 2 HEALTH/TRAINER/NURSE SUPPLY ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Lehigh County Schools Joint Purchasing Board decided to identify this as an additional future committee due to the fact that the products differ from the Athletic/Physical Ed supply product line. CUSTODIAL AND MAINTENANCE SUPPLY ADVISORY COMMITTEE The committee recently completed a Winter Care Products Bid. The bid totaled $27,137.66. The following schools participated in the bid: Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 Lehigh Carbon Community College Lehigh Career & Technical Institute Northern Lehigh School District Parkland School District Southern Lehigh School District Whitehall-Coplay School District The group is now moving forward with the development of HVAC filter and plumbing supply catalogs.
