NEW: America's Music, From Plymouth Rock to Rock & Roll Mondays, April 5, 12, 19, and 26, 7:00 PM Join Matthew Sabatella for a virtual journey that connects traditional American folk songs, spirituals, work songs, fiddle tunes, Appalachian music, ragtime, blues, jazz, old-time country, bluegrass, and early rock & roll, on Monday evenings, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, and 4/26 at 7:00 PM, sponsored in partnership with The Music Club of Hollywood. Matthew is a singer, instrumentalist, recording artist, performer, speaker, writer, and content curator who illuminates the connection between music and the story and people of the United States. Sabatella performs regularly and teaches about music from America's diverse cultural history as a guest lecturer and through his live performances. He serves on the board of directors for the Southeast regional chapter of Folk Alliance International (SERFA). April 5: Roots of American Music - Learn about the music of Indigenous Americans and the songs and instruments that came with the arrival of Spanish, French, English, and African peoples. April 12: American Music Traditions - We will explore music and dance traditions that emerged as people from different cultures converged in the United States, including square dance, minstrel performances, ragtime, jazz, and Cajun music. April 19: Blues and County - We will examine the birth of the blues and early country music. April 26: R & B and Rock ‘n Roll - How rhythm and blues and rock & roll were born through the migration of blues and country music into urban areas.
