Team East Bulletin July 2014 Skills Competition CPD programme (see East of England Programme page 4). This is a nationally funded Education and Training Foundation CPD programme, managed by AoC with a programme running in each of the AoC regions. As a starting point to the programme ACER undertake research using LMI to effectively map sector skills priorities/gaps to skills competition entries in the East of England to allow us to identify and encourage competitions in under- represented skills and engage employers within our region. We also want to consider how we work with our Local Enterprise Partnerships to drive up the skills agenda and to ensure we position our provision and learners are best place for local opportunities. Photography We’ve enjoyed some very diverse and imaginative Skills Show Events so far, here are the small events to date: The College of West Anglia - 18 February (focus on local opportunities) Harlow College – 4/5 March (focus on STEM) West Suffolk College - 19 March (Little Big Bang STEM event) Bedford College - 20 March (focus on local opportunities) Barnfield College - 4 June (focus on local Textiles opportunities and building your future) Peterborough Regional College - 9 June (focus on local opportunities) East Norfolk Sixth Form College, held at North Suffolk Skills Academy - 3 July (LLDD) and large events: The Skills Show Experience Herts held at North Herts College (Stevenage campus) - 3 April The Careers Festival held - 10 July at the Peterborough Embankment. Electrical 5 The Hertfordshire event involved 58 employers, the National Careers Service, a skills competition and 37 “Have a Go” activities (which included STEM). The event was held on Thursday 3 April from 10:00 until 16:00 at the Stevenage Campus of North Herts College. There were 17 employer-led workshops and VIP guests included Monica Gomes from the Skills Funding Agency; representatives from Freshminds; four people from the EDGE Foundation (one of the lead sponsors) and three NHC Governors. There were over 1621 visitors and 38% signed up for future activities/information. 55% of those surveyed (by Freshminds) received careers advice (28% from NCS, one of the key partners who had “the hub” present). Of those surveyed, 71% stated their knowledge of vocational education had Impromptu Flashdance increased post-event either by “a fair amount” (57%) or “a great deal” (14%). Marketing included radio, press, social media (eg FB reach of 78,360), schools liaison, direct mail and posters and flyers. We also had 102 tweets (using #TSSEHerts) resulting in a reach of over 4,400 (by NHC and ACER). This will enable ACER App Design to fund and organise professional development visits for 60 ACER member college staff over the th Colchester Institute, 9 and 28th May 2014 next 2 year period to visit their counterparts in European Vocational Education Training (VET) Gift Box Design Providers.
