1 For Immediate Release ACHE Announces David Blumenthal as Honorary Fellow CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2019—David Blumenthal, MD, HFACHE, president, The Commonwealth Fund, New York, has been selected as an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Honorary Fellowship is a special category of ACHE membership. It recognizes individuals who have rendered distinguished service in the healthcare field or in related areas and who would not ordinarily be ACHE members. Blumenthal will receive his Honorary Fellowship on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the Convocation Ceremony during ACHE’s 62nd Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago. Blumenthal leads The Commonwealth Fund, a national philanthropy engaged in independent research on health and social policy issues. He is formerly the Samuel O. Thier Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and chief health information and innovation officer at Partners Healthcare System in Boston. From 2009 to 2011, he served as the national coordinator for health information technology, charged with building an interoperable, private and secure nationwide health information system and supporting the widespread, meaningful use of health IT. He succeeded in putting in place one of the largest publicly funded infrastructure investments the nation has ever made in such a short time period, in healthcare or any other field. Blumenthal also has been a practicing primary care physician, director of the Institute for Health Policy, and professor of medicine and health policy at Massachusetts General Hospital/Partners Healthcare System and Harvard Medical School.
