Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery At Winfield CW3 (Retired) Susan M. Weathers was born and raised in Winfield, KS. She graduated No one is ever buried alone. Winfield High School in 1991 and joined the United States Army Reserves. She attended All are buried with honor. basic training at Fort Dix, NJ, and advanced individual training (AIT) at Fort Sam Houston earning the military occupational specialty of a 91B Medical Specialist. She went active Army in 1993. In 2003 she graduated flight school as a 152D, OH-58D (R) Kiowa Warrior Pilot. She retired after 21 years in June 2014. Assignments include Medic 4th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, and 514th Medical Company (Ground Ambulance) at Fort Lewis, Washington; HSC 168th Medical Company (Area Support) at Camp Carroll, South Korea; Urgent Care Clinic Sergeant Fort Eustis, Virginia; Flight School 1st Battalion, 145th Aviation Regiment, Fort Rucker, Alabama; Pilot 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas and 4th Squadron, 6th Air Cavalry Regiment at Fort Lewis, Washington; Survival Evasion Resistance Escape (SERE) Instructor 1st Battalion, 145th Aviation Regiment, SERE Detachment at Fort Rucker, Alabama; Squadron Tactical Operations Officer 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia. She has deployed to Iraq twice (Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) II—Taji & Baghdad, OIF VII-VIII –Mosul), and Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom 12-13 –Kandahar), and couple of rotations to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Her award and decorations include Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Valor (2nd Award), Air Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (8th Award), Army Achievement Medal (6th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (Bronze Star), Iraq Campaign Medal (Bronze Star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Stars), Global War Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2nd Award), United Nations Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Valorous Unit Award, United States Navy Unit Commendation, Combat Action Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, and Senior Aviation Badge.
