Reception of Protodeacon George Skvor

Reception of Protodeacon George Skvor

ARCHDIOCESE OF ETNA, CALIFORNIA Reception of Protodeacon George Skvor WE ANNOUNCE, with particular pleasure, the official reception of Pro- todeacon George Skvor, along with his Diakonissa (Matushka), Helen Orloff Skvor, into our Synod’s American Exarchate from the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad (ROCA). Archbishop Chrysostomos, with the approval of the Acting President of the Holy Synod, Bishop Cyprian of Oreoi, and the Standing Synod of Bishops, has informed Father George of his acceptance in an official letter dated 21 April 2008, (Church Cal- endar). Father George, whose parents fled Communist Russia, was born in Germany, among the displaced persons of the Russian emigration. His family subsequently moved to the U.S. He was ordained to the Priest- hood, as a Deacon, by the late Archbishop Anthony of Los Angeles, hav- ing served at the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles. He ceased serving in the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad after its union with Moscow and, having investigated the various alternatives, decided to petition for reception into our Synod of Bishops, which also broke communion with the ROCA when it unified with the Moscow Patriar- chate. Father George is a graduate of the California State University, North- ridge, and studied at the Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, New York. He is retired from his secular employment. His Matushka is a teacher. Father and Matushka are the parents of two grown sons. Archbishop Chrysostomos has assigned Father George to our Ex- archate parish in San Diego, California. We are delighted and honored to have Father George and Matushka Helen, individuals of a peaceful, moderate, and circumspect spirit, among us. ❑.
