Jamboree Correspondents • Youth participants – Boy Scouts and Venturers – may serve as news correspondents for local newspapers or online publications. • Youth make arrangements with local editors and producers for news outlets in their community. • Editors at the Jamboree Hometown Media center help them prepare and transmit stories to news outlets at home. • Sign up process open soon. Of course, water bottles! • Full field (Class A) uniform (esp. for travel). • Clothing for warm weather, rain, water sports. Equipment - Duffels • Council will provide a large duffel for jamboree gear • Council will provide a carry-on bag for gear used in Washington, D.C., (and during Jambo) Equipment – Troop Equipment On site on arrival at Jambo: • Tents with cots • Awning and tables • Stoves, pots, etc. Contingent provides: • plates, bowls, utensils Equipment - Electronics • Participants may bring personal electronic devices (PEDs) with charging accessories but will be solely responsible for them. (We won’t disrupt the schedule to look for lost devices, for example.) • PED use must be appropriate (in line with Scout Oath and Law) and respectful of privacy. Use must not be a distraction. No gaming during free time. • PEDs will be confiscated if a problem. Unit leaders have the final word about confiscations. Equipment – Electronics (cont.) • All cell phone numbers will be stored in unit leader phone contact lists in case youth contact is needed. • Special apps used for drawing food for unit meals. • Participants must be prepared (zip-lock bags or cases) to protect PEDs from wet weather. • There are limited charging stations so participants must plan to conserve battery power and charge when possible. • Radios may be used for listening to Jamboree radio station QBSA if not a distraction. Equipment – Electronics (cont.) • Before the Jamboree, participants should download a jamboree app (available around June), which generally work on both iPhones and androids. • During the Jamboree all information – including emergency alerts – is transmitted to those with smart phones using that app. • No information will be printed and none sent to those without smart phones. Before the Jamboree Before Jamboree Shakedowns on Feb. 18-19 and April 22-23 • Participants are expected to attend at least one, preferably both. This is practice for important Jamboree routines. • Arrive between 9-10:00 a.m. at Lost Pines Dining Hall. • Bring fully completed medical form. • Bring 2-person tent Before Jamboree • Will set up campsite with Jamboree unit • Participate in patrol and crew activities • Have Swim Check (if participant misses this, must have swim check per BSA requirements.) • Participate in Troop/Crew Campfire • Depart Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Before Jamboree At Shakedowns, we need Commissary Commandos, parent volunteers to help with food and supplies distribution.
