THE HOUSE That Love Built CELEBRATING

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES® OF JACKSONVILLE THE HOUSE That Love Built CELEBRATING 25YEARS 2013 ANNUAL REPORT THE HOUSE That Love Built CELEBRATING 25YEARS Since 1988, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville has provided a “home away from home” for families who travel to Jacksonville during their child’s illness and injury. Our story began with just 10 bedrooms in our original location on Jefferson Street and today we care for 30 families each night at our House in the San Marco neighborhood. The care and compassion families receive is made possible by generous donors, dedicated volunteers and committed staff members. We are grateful for the support from the community that allows us to give the gift of togetherness to families when they need it most. Each day we see the comfort that a child feels from having their loved ones close by during their illness or injury. By supporting our mission, you help to provide the comforts of home and to create special moments for our families. 2013 ANNUAL REPORT OUR MISSION OUR Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Jacksonville supports the health and well-being of children by providing lodging and other services for critically ill, chronically ill and seriously injured children and their families. OUR PROGRAMS The House provides lodging, dinner meal program, transportation and support to parents and siblings during their stay. We even have a fulltime trained facility dog, Reed, who provides loving therapy and comfort to the families. The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital is staffed by volunteers who offer snacks, smiles, entertainment and a listening ear. Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is a mobile health facility is operated in conjunction with St. Vincent’s Mobile Outreach Ministry. This program provides physicals, vaccinations and diagnostic testing at middle and high schools in underserved Jacksonville neighborhoods. 25 YEARS, THANKS TO YOU. Because of your support and the many supporters who have been a part of our history, families can be together and supported by people who care and understand their needs during some of their hardest times. Thank you for being a part of our rich history. Our entire staff and team of volunteers look forward to another incredible 25 years! A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR 25YEARS For the past 25 years, families have needed a place of peace and refuge when seeking the best medical care for their children in Jacksonville. The Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville has been that place providing comfort and care, lodging, meals and transportation to the nearby hospitals. Our House has been a very special community. A community of support, compassion, hope, respect and love. We are always so grateful to our families for entrusting us with their care inside this community and grateful to our volunteers and supporters for helping us provide that care. Over the last 25 years our leadership has expanded to now include our Advisory Board, Board of Directors and our young professional group, The Red Show Crew. Our 2013 boards represented some of the finest leadership in Jacksonville representing the medical, financial, legal, transportation, energy, insurance, advertising, professional sports, employment and retail communities. These executives offer valuable insight as to how we can provide the best solutions for our families. Our Red Shoe Crew are the leaders of tomorrow. They are a growing group of young professionals that will insure that our mission continues and the needs of our future families are met. Over 25 years our journey has been impressive. From the first house on Jefferson Street in 1988 to our current house on Children’s Way we have served over 32,000 families with our lodging, programs, dedication and compassion. We have watched the Ronald McDonald family Room at Wolfson Children’s Hospital grow to become an important and welcome respite for families. And, our CareMobile, in conjunction with St. Vincent’s Hospital, continues to serve the children of Jacksonville with basic health services. Our programs have now expanded to include our very special facility dog “Reed” whose love and connection to our families is immeasurable. Our new Visiting Nurses Program, in conjunction with Nemours Hospital, provides a time when parents can ask those many questions about their child’s health to nursing professionals in an informal setting . Our new art therapy program offered by “Art With a Heart” offers our children a delightful creative experience in the midst of their days otherwise filled with hospital visits. And, Tuesday morning is a very special time at the Ronald McDonald House when our much-loved Dr. Armstrong, retired pediatrician, is here in our dining room meeting with moms and dads providing reassurance and support. After 25 years we are now preparing for the next chapter. The need for the services and support provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville is continuing to grow and we must continue to grow to meet the need. So to meet that need, later this year we will break ground on a 24-room expansion to our current House. With the expanded House, we will be able to continue providing much needed support and services to even more families. We are tremendously excited about our growth and we look forward to the next 25 years and many, many more!
