Tourism Development builds the general operating budget based on 3 pennies or $4,619,608. In addition to the operating budget there is an ask to draw from reserves to activate numerous programs and projects over the course of the year to drive demand and increase brand positioning in key feeder markets and to targeted market segments. As we begin to emerge from COVID, competition among all destinations world-wide will be strong as those who have traditionally relied on the meetings market to drive occupancy and visitation will be looking to the leisure traveler to backfill those losses while the meetings market recovers. Total proposed budget is $5,617,986, which represents a year-over-year reduction in operating expense of $1,536,267 or 25%, and a year-over-year increase in the use of reserves in the amount of $102,000 or 11%. Currently Tourism Development reserves are projected at $5.2m. The Tourism Development FY 2020/2021 Draft Budget Overview and Draft Consolidated Budget are included for your review.
