Club Christmas Luncheon

City Livery Club uniting the livery, promoting fellowship Lord’s: Museum, Long Room & behind-the-scenes tour St John’s Wood Road, London NW8 8QN Tuesday 29 March 2016 5.30p.m. Lord’s Cricket Ground, one of the most prestigious sporting venues owned by the MCC for the past 200 years, is world famous as “the home of cricket” and hosts more games than any other cricket club. President John MacCabe invites you to join him for a private tour, starting in the MCC Museum, home of the famous Ashes urn, which in the view of our President is possibly the most iconic trophy in international sport. A wonderful opportunity to see behind the scenes at one of the most prestigious sporting venues in the world and a true London landmark. The Museum brings the fascinating story of cricket to life. Paintings, photographs and artefacts, covering 400 years of cricket history, reveal the game's development from a rural pastime to a modern, increasingly international sport. Precious exhibits include the Wisden Trophy and the tiny, delicate and irreplaceable Ashes urn. The museum also boasts bats, balls and kit donated by great players including past greats such as WG Grace, Victor Trumper, Jack Hobbs, Keith Miller and Don Bradman. The tour continues through the heart of the Pavilion to the famed Long Room, both a cricket-watching room and a cricket art gallery. The Long Room has a unique atmosphere, panoramic views of the pitch and is where players make their way to and from the 'hallowed turf'. Other highlights include the players' Dressing Rooms with the renowned Lord's Honours Boards, providing a lasting reminder of exceptional batting and bowling performances in Lord's Tests. The tour guides will include an expert on Lord’s unique art collection. Please arrive at the Grace Gate in St John’s Wood Road for a 5.30 p.m. start. Canapés and wine will be served during the Museum visit. The tour finishes at approx. 8.00 p.m. in the Players’ Dressing Room, with a glass of Prosecco. The nearest station is St John’s Wood (15 mins) and Baker Street, Warwick Avenue and Marylebone are also nearby. The 138 and 189 buses run closest to the Grace Gate and details can be found on the TFL website. The dress code is lounge suit / blazer and tie. Price: £79.50 per person.
