The Tanglewood Music Center: Fulfillment of a Dream The Tanglewood Music Center was established by the Boston Symphony Orchestra as the Berkshire Music Center in 1940, fulfilling the hopes and dreams of two of the most important figures in the BSO's history, Henry Lee Higginson, the founder, and Serge Koussevitzky, who was the orchestra's music director from 1924 to 1949. An exhibit of photographs, letters, programs, and other memorabilia relating to the history of the Music Center has been installed in the Cohen Wing lobby by the BSO Archives. Shown here is a photograph of Serge Koussevitzky (center) with two of his conducting proteges, Leonard Bernstein and Eleazer de Carvalho, ca. 1949. v Where Fashion Hits A High Nan. £ jCopley Place, ktd&xm^ p- of dist&ctiyeiashitms.
