For the second Super Bowl in a row, the Dolphins did not give up a touchdown until the fourth quarter, shutting Minnesota out until a touchdown in the first two minutes of the quarter. This time the Dolphins ran for 196 yards on 53 rushes. Larry Csonka had 33 carries for 145 yards and touch- downs of 5 and 2 yards. MINNESOTA John Gilliam (South Carolina State), WR, Minnesota Had four receptions for 44 yards (11 yards per catch) and two kick- off returns for 41 yards. - Caught 3-yard pass from QB Fran Tarkenton in left flat after Miami goes up 17-0 in second quarter. - Caught 30-yard pass from Tarkenton in same drive down to Miami 15. Four plays later RB Oscar Reed fumbles at Miami 6 recovered by Miami’s Buoniconti two plays before halftime. - Caught 2-yard reception on last play of third quarter. - Catches 9-yard pass two plays later on second play of fourth quarter. Four plays later, Tarkenton scores on 4-yard run to pull Minnesota within 24-7. - Tackled Lash after his interception of Tarkenton in fourth quarter. MIAMI Larry Little, OG (Bethune-Cookman) Miami right guard helped lead Dolphins to 196 rushing yards includ- ing record 145 by Larry Csonka. MVP: Larry Csonka, RB, Miami - Ran 33 times for 145 yards and two TDs in Dolphins win. KEY FACTS: Miami QB Bob Griese only threw for a Super Bowl record low of seven (7) times, completing six (6) for 73 yards with no interceptions. PAVING THE WAY: Miami right guard Larry Little (#66, BETHUNE-COOKMAN, on ground) upends Minnesota defensive end Jim Marshall (70) to open the hole for Dolphins’ running back Mercury Morris in Super Bowl VIII. ON HIS WAY: Minnesota wide receiver John Gilliam (#42, South Car- olina State) breaks away from Miami defender and runs for daylight in Super Bowl VIII. .
