Tenebrae Celebrates Its Fifteenth Anniversary with Tour and Brand New Commission

TENEBRAE CELEBRATES ITS FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY WITH TOUR AND BRAND NEW COMMISSION Tenebrae, the award-winning choir founded and directed by Nigel Short, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year with a tour of Joby Talbot’s ground-breaking work, Path of Miracles, a new commission from Owain Park entitled Footsteps and a CD of both works on Signum Records. The latter will be recorded with the Fellows of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain. Path of Miracles by Joby Talbot was the first major work commissioned by Tenebrae in 2005. It received dazzling reviews at the time (“an evocative odyssey” - The Times) and returns this year for a tour incorporating Hull (UK City of Culture 2017, 18 May), Bath Festival (24 May), St David’s Cathedral (2 June), Voices of London Festival (7 July), Cheltenham Festival (12 July), Cambridge Summer Music Festival (28 July), Exeter Cathedral (15 September), Truro (16 September), Lammermuir Festival (23 September), City of Derry International Choral Festival (27 October) and Canterbury Festival (28 October). To accompany its revival, Tenebrae has commissioned a new work by Owain Park, Footsteps, which sees Tenebrae perform alongside community/youth choirs based near the touring venues. Each choir will receive a workshop from Tenebrae professionals and a range of online resources including scores, guide audio tracks, performance tips and background context. Commenting Nigel Short said: “This is a significant time for Tenebrae on the brink of the group’s anniversary tour. It’s been twelve years since we last performed Path Of Miracles and we are thrilled to be touring it alongside Owain Park’s new work which will be premièred in Hull, the 2017 UK City of Culture. Artistic excellence and dramatic performances have always been at the heart of what we do. Wherever possible, Tenebrae performs music from memory, by candlelight and using the spatial opportunities afforded by the venue to create an immersive audience experience. For the first time this year, we will be able to share our approach with community and youth choirs across Britain.” For further information about Tenebrae’s UK tour visit: www.tenebrae-choir.com/path-of- miracles BOX OFFICES Thursday, 18 May at 7.30pm Holy Trinity Church, Hull (UK City of Culture 2017) www.hullboxoffice.com Wednesday, 24 May a 7:30pm Bath Abbey (The Bath Festival) www. bathfestivals.org.uk Friday, 2 June at 7.00pm St Davids Cathedral, Pembrokeshire 7pm www.stdavidscathedral.org.uk Friday, 7 July at 7.45pm The Priory Church of St Bartholomew-the-Great (Voices of London Festival) www.voicesoflondonfestival.com Wednesday, 12 July at 8.00pm Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucestershire (Cheltenham Music Festival) www.cheltenhamfestivals.com Friday, 28 July at 7.30pm Trinity College Cambridge (Cambridge Summer Music Festival) www.cambridgesummermusic.com Friday, 15 September at 7.30pm Exeter Cathedral exeter-cathedral.cloudvenue.co.uk/tenebrae Saturday, 16 September at 7.30pm Truro Cathedral, www.hallforcornwall.co.uk Saturday, 23 September at 7.45pm St Mary’s Church, Haddington, East Lothian (Lammermuir Festival) www.lammermuirfestival.co.uk Friday, 27 October at 7.30pm St Columb’s Hall, Derry (City of Derry International Choir Festival) www.derrychoirfest.com Saturday, 28 October at 7.45pm Canterbury Cathedral (Canterbury Festival) www.canterburyfestival.co.uk Ends NOTE TO EDITORS: This project is supported by Arts Council England, PRS for Music Foundation, Britten-Pears Foundation, Fidelio Charitable Trust, Santander Discovery Foundation Grant, Music Sales Ltd and Bell Music.
