LC Paper No. CB(2)244/07-08(01) The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Declaration of C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Woo Sing College as Constituent Colleges) Bill The Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has resolved to establish three new and additional Colleges, namely, C.W. Chu College (敬文書院), Wu Yee Sun College (伍宜孫書院) and Lee Woo Sing College (和聲書院). In accordance with Section 3(1) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance (Cap. 1109), the three Colleges were declared constituent Colleges of the University by special resolutions of the Council. For this purpose, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Declaration of C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Woo Sing College as Constituent Colleges) Bill will be presented to the Legislative Council by the Honourable Cheung Man-kwong as a Private Member’s Bill. The organization and structure of these three new Colleges will be the same as those provided in the statutory amendments adopted by the Legislative Council in July 2007 for Morningside College and S.H. Ho College. The Bill to be presented this time will only involve the declaration of the three new Colleges as CUHK’s constituent Colleges and the addition of their names to the long title and preamble of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance. To cater for the addition of over 3,000 undergraduates upon reversion to a four-year undergraduate curriculum in 2012, new Colleges have to be established. Since May 2006, the University Council has been able to secure private donations for the establishment of Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College and Lee Woo Sing College. With the establishment of these five new Colleges, CUHK will have sufficient College places and facilities to cope with the additional undergraduates in 2012 and will provide a broader spectrum of choices for students to select the type of College experience that they prefer.
