PR Writing 1 – Writing to Inform Professor Lyn Whitham Andres Reiban November 2nd 2018 Major Assignment #1 Audience: Employees CIBC to Leave Commerce Court and Tower Over Toronto’s Downtown Core Toronto, Ontario – CIBC’s new massive office towers, CIBC Square, will house its 15,000 employees and serve as an icon for innovative and progressive building design. Currently located in Toronto’s Commerce Court at Bay and King Street, CIBC will be upgrading to the new towers in Toronto’s downtown core effective 2020. Figure 1: The two towers located at 81 Bay Street and 41 Bay Street serve as a 3 million square foot downtown campus with 1.75 million square feet belonging to CIBC. “I’m absolutely thrilled of what’s to come! The location is great, the infrastructure of the building is incredible, and who doesn’t like that new office smell. It’s such a great investment from CIBC and I’m glad to be a part of it” said Ashley Cester, program control officer at CIBC. The new towers facing Union Station and the Air Canada Centre, aim to provide seamless accessibility throughout the downtown core. The CIBC Square towers will also house a new GO bus terminal at its 81 Bay Street tower, with ease of access to the PATH network, Union station, other businesses, and amenities. “The project’s strategic location at the confluence of all major transit channels in the heart of downtown Toronto will set the site apart as the pre-eminent office complex in the city,” said Daniel Fournier, chairman and CEO of Ivanhoé Cambridge. In addition to ground-level accessibility, CIBC Square’s design has a 4th floor bridge between both towers that shelter and straddle both train tracks that run through the downtown core. This bridge will house a park with innovative garden meeting rooms to serve as an extension of the workplace. “I’m really looking forward to the park. Working long hours in an office can really take a toll on someone and having that freedom of working outdoors under the sun gives me something to look forward to. I think this will benefit many people, not only CIBC employees” said Edrianne Crisostomo, marketing intern at CIBC. With the first tower launching in 2020, and the second in 2023, the CIBC Square towers will incorporate the newest technology and working methods in the market. All 49 floors in each tower will be equipped with daylight harvesting sensors, glass with optimized external noise reduction, and seamless floor to ceiling windows.
