Philip KR : Kilian Roever RW2 : Richard Wasburn General Comments: Note regarding the Alaska Lepidoptera Survey: My field activities were severely limited in 2010--no remote field trips were made. The Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest, and the Chena Flood Control Project, were checked regularly throughout the summer when the weather permitted, and the Steese Highway was occasionally checked. Live close-up photography of butterflies continued--nearly all Alaskan species have now been captured alive in digital files. Collections by ALS volunteers were carried out in the Bristol Bay area (King Salmon) and at a new site near Bethel--the mining community at Nyac. Dempster Highway 21-Jun-10 KR NYMPHALIDAE Vanessa atalanta Yukon River valley: Lake Laberge 19-Jun-10 KR ALASKA Weather: Interior Alaska had an early spring, but a brief cool spell then delayed butterfly emergence. June was normal, but July had rainfall on all but 4 days 10-31 July.. August had the highest temperature (91F) ever recorded this late in the summer. September was warmer than average, extending the growing season by two weeks. This weather pattern produced some odd results. Many species of butterflies did very well in May and June--but mid-summer was very poor for collecting (not only in the Interior). The late summer and
