February 1992 l Contents Introduction . 1 Bibliography . 3 Index ............................................. 79 iii Seismic Hazards of Western Washington and Selected Adjacent Areas-Bibliography and Index, 1988-1991 compiled by Connie J. Manson Introduction This work continues the previous seismic hazards bibliography (Manson, 1988). Like that work, this includes all citations pertinent to the study of earthquake hazards in western Washington and the metropolitan Portland, Oregon, area that were received by the Washing ton Division of Geology and Earth Resources Library from September 1988 through Septem ber 1991. Studies that could shed light on the causes and(or) effects of earthquakes in western Wash ington and adjacent areas have been included. Thus, the bibliography emphasizes the seis mology, paleoseismology, geophysics, and earthquake-related hazards of the targeted geo graphic areas and includes studies of structural geology and tectonics, glacial geology, geochronology, slope stability, soil mechanics, and other pertinent subjects. The previous work concentrated on the Puget-Willamette trough and adjacent areas: the Cascade Range, the Olympic Peninsula, and the Vancouver, B.C., area. The geographic scope of this work has been expanded to include the entire Cascadia subduction zone-from Cape Mendocino, California, to northern Vancouver Island, B.C. Each citation is given in full in the Bibliography. Citations are listed alphabetically by author; joint-author cross references are interfiled. In the Subject Index, items are given alphabetically by subject and geographic area, with appropriate subdivisions. To conserve space, only the author(s), date, and title of citations are given in the subject index, enough information to find the full citation(s) in the Bibliog raphy. Duplicate citations (items with the same author(s) and title issued more than once, for example, as both a thesis and an abstract) are listed only once under the appropriate Subject Headings and marked with an asterisk (*). The inclusion of non-Washington State materials complicates the index. Items about Wash ington are entered directly (e.g., LANDSLIDES AND SLOPE STABILITY). Items about non-Washington areas are prefaced by the state or province name (e.g., OREGON - LAND SLIDES AND SLOPE STABILITY). Acknowledgment This project has been supported by the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program though U.S. Geological Survey Agreement no. 14-08-0001-AOS09. Reference Cited Manson, C.
